Prefab77 Sunday Girl Print

No comments:

Prefab77 are a couple of artists who have origins in the north of England, California and New York by weaving small pieces of modern popular culture.

They create fast, hard-edged and stripped down artwork that is often political, sometimes anti-establishment, but always beautiful. rock and rebellion reflecting on the passing of our familiar institutions, shadowy establishment on the take and take small bites out of the underbelly of our modern culture that gets more bizarre with each passing day.

It is a dark word of money, fashion, music and politics woven into a luxurious mixture of acrylic, spraypaint, wheatpaste and varnish.

Prefab77 An Eye For An Eyrie HPM's On Wood

No comments:

Prefab77 returns to 1xRUN with their latest series An Eye For An Eyrie available in 4 individually hand-painted colorways and 1 oversized edition all available exclusively on 1xRUN. Each totem in the series is uniquely hand-painted and ready to hang and promises to be one of Prefab77's most sought after.

"We have always loved the portrait, our current style is one of mixing allegorical portraiture with our hard, fast edged style, often with secret messages, religious affiliations and pop iconography woven into the art. We have explored the Totemic style in this release to carry these messages and to create a visually beautiful way to express an abstract idea or to convey and meaning not explicitly set out in the narrative. Like a really good 3 minute pop/rock track in can be a fable, a story or a Warning!" - Prefab77

Each one is 14 x 25 Inches (25.2 x 66cm) created with Spraypaint, Acrylic & Screenprint on CNC Cut Wood Panel

Prefab 77 Unmasked Prints & Wood Cut Art

No comments:

The last bunch of prints / woodcuts from Prefab77's amazing time on the 1XRUN residency out in Detroit are now live!

Feeling more like original works on paper, these prints are all super hand-painted, with heavily layered backgrounds, 4 spray paint layers and a final screenprint layer.

"This whole series started a little bit different, but it’s still got the same elements that we’ve always done. We always tell a story, whether it’s political, fashion, music or history. What we’ve switched to with these totems, it’s a case of figuring out a concept and a medium that is scalea-ble. The whole thing for us now is telling it in a small scale or a big scale. You either do it small, as these little totems, or tall on a building, which is what the next step for us will be. The story could be anything. It could be the history of a city, a struggle, a person or a movement. With this medium we can have the ability to do that. We want to tell compelling stories that could be a sad, poignant or serious story but could encapsulated in these figures.

People love to tell stories and love to hear stories. I think that’s what everyone does whether it's movies, advertising, songs or poetry. When you write a song you’re telling a story. It’s a human condition. If you took everything away, you would be around the campfire telling stories. Medieval art tells the story of religion. Renaissance art has hidden allegories. Russian art tells a political story and punk posters tell the story from the dispossessed. We’ve pulled all these references together to create all these figures." - Prefab77

Prefab77 Unmasked Show at Inner State Gallery Covered

No comments:

Friday night Inner State Gallery played host to only the second solo gallery show in the United States by the English artistic duo Prefab77.  Peter Manning & Marc Ross set up their work space in the Inner State Gallery studio and for 2 weeks worked almost nonstop and this incredible body of work.

Prefab77 Happiness Is Expensive Print Release

No comments:

1xRUN have been following Prefab77 for the past few yeas and they finally caught up with them to work on an exclusive 1xRUN release titled Happiness Is Expensive.

Each print is 27 x 39 Inches Hand-Embellished 6-Color Screen Prints on 300gsm Fabrino Rosapina Paper with an edition of 5 or 25 plus there will be 2 on aluminum.

"Happiness is Expensive is part of a theme we are developing, keeping our hard, fast edged style and mixing with portraiture. We want to explore the iconography and the power of the female form in traditional art, music and fashion.

Throughout the ages portraits are used to reflect the subject but also the time period that the subject inhabits, with secret messages, religious affiliations and iconography woven into the piece. We want to take this forward and use the main figurative element reflect these messages into a powerful piece.

We want to bridge the gap between street art and traditional art by using a mixture of Acrylic, Spraypaint, stencils, wheat pastes and various screen print inks in our work layering these into luxurious prints and originals." - Prefab77
