Shark Toof Cici N'est Pas Une Mickey Mouse Print

No comments:

You gotta love Shark Toof's art, fun hilarious and new view of things. He has released a new print with 1xRUN titled Cici N'est Pas Une Mickey Mouse.

"These pieces are a spoof or mash up of pop icons distorting or vandalizing my Shark Toof profile shark icon. In contrast to a lot of the paintings you see where an artist is painting Mickey Mouse in their style, my paintings are more of a take over of my icon. Mickey Mouse shark, rad. Mickey Mouse shark eating Donald, more rad. Each take over is of the same Shark Toof profile shark, as the foundation, in every themed piece, creating a series. " - Shark Toof

Shark Toof Cici N'est Pas Une Homer & Bart Simpson Prints

No comments:

Shark Toof is once again circling 1xRUN and getting ready to attack with two great new prints featuring Homer & Bart Simpson. The prints titled Cici N'est Pas Une Homer & Bart Simpson respectively can be bought separate or as a set.

"The idea was to bring back the atmosphere of old school 80's graffiti. We used pop characters from Disney and Old Cartoons and off course master Vaughn Bode, and incorporated those characters in our graffiti pieces, either literally or in a hybrid style. Thus, even the attitude of graffiti of just having a punk attitude, like Bart Simpson.

Bart was the mascot for my solo show at Inner State Gallery in Detroit. He embodies my personal experience growing up as a graffiti artist. Homer is probably more like who I am now." - Shark Toof

They both go on sale Thursday at NOON EST at 1xRUN.com

Shark Toof Ceci N'est Pas Une Raphael Print Release

No comments:

Shark Toof has new release today with 1xRUN and he goes way back to his childhood and the love of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Raphel.

"Growing up with the first comic book release of Ninja Turtles in 1984, I identified most with Raphael. He was named after the 16th century painter Raphael, and is usually depicted as being aggressive, sullen, maddened, and rebellious. Not only did I relate to his character, as a teen with angst, but Raphael is a perfect parallel to my sharks." - Shark Toof

No comments:

Inner State Gallery and 1xRUN are proud to welcome Los Angeles artist Shark Toof. An entirely new body of work, “I’m Shark Toof, Who The Hell Are You?” is an expansive examination of Toof’s continually evolving style that explores a harmonious mix of his signature shark icon with pop culture and comic book inspirations. The show featured all new paintings, hand-painted multiples, stencil works and prints that blend Toof’s signature street aesthetic alongside his refined fine art gallery works.

“This new body of work is a blend of my graffiti roots which is where I really developed my own unique voice. At the same time there’s also an aspect of this work that is just not taking yourself too seriously, kind of vandalizing your own icons,” Shark Toof said while preparing in Detroit. “I like Detroit because it is very do-it yourself and I am a very do-it yourself artist so it is a great fit for me.”

“I’m Shark Toof, Who The Hell Are You?” Show at Inner State Gallery Covered

No comments:

This past Friday night saw the opening of Los Angeles artist Shark Toof's first ever solo show in Detroit at Inner State Gallery. Titled “I’m Shark Toof, Who The Hell Are You?”, it's entirely new body of work that is an expansive examination of Toof’s continually evolving style that explores a harmonious mix of his signature shark icon with pop culture and comic book inspirations.

Taking up residency in Detroit at the Inner State Gallery/1xRUN studio and artist loft, Toof has worked with several local artists to re-imagine his past icons onto unique new mediums. With the idea of keeping accessible hand-painted multiples, prints and originals at the core of this exhibition there will be no shortage of cleverly woven icons in a collaborative explosion of Toof’s visual landscape.

“I like Detroit because it is very do-it yourself and I am a very do-it yourself artist so it is a great fit,” Shark Toof said.

The most impressive pieces were the massive Migration Sharks that took up an entire wall themselves.

Shark Toof Guilty Pleasures Prints Release

No comments:

Shark Toof is back at 1xRUN today with a series of 3 prints titled Guilty Pleasures.

"The name Shark Toof and the original Shark Toof Icon were developed at the same time. With my Graffiti Art roots, I know how important it is to establish and own a tag name, and more importantly an image to remind the viewer of that tag name.

After a good full year of establishing the Shark Toof Icon on the streets, I didn't quite know where I wanted to move the Icon. It took some isolation to really stand behind my own beliefs without becoming a political artist. Thinking of iconographic shapes, I thought the cigarette pack is an easily identifiable shape which lead me to the idea of "Guilty Pleasures" and the Shark Toof Cigarette Pack. Although, I am not a smoker myself, I support every individual to indulge in whatever pleasures them as long as others aren't effected.

The Shark Toof Slot Machine was a natural progression as the slot machine is also an iconographic image on its own. The twist on the image is that the jackpot are cigarettes which ties into the Shark Toof Cigarette Pack print. In other words, by indulging in your guilty pleasure, the jackpot will be more guilty pleasures. I think the main selling point on these was to make them as sexy, flashy Old Las Vegas swank!" - Shark Toof

All 3 prints are 18 x 24 Inches Screen Prints on 140lb Archival Fine Art Paper

All 3 will be on sale today at NOON EST at 1xRUN.com

Shark Toof -Two Girls & Three Tigers Show- Print On Sale Today

No comments:

"This piece is significant in the journey towards my solo show in October titled "Ping Pong Show." Two Girls And Three Tigers illuminates the contemplation of nature, culture, predator vs. prey, and recent travels to Thailand and the middle east. The idea is a culmination of seduction, animal spirit, philosophy of culture and its roll in the idea of predator vs. prey. 1 square inch could take 1 - 5 days depending on how it's working with the painting as a whole. My process can be masochistic. It's a chess match. My roots as an illustrator is that everything is planned out. I'm going against the grain in more of a fine art direction by allowing the painting to guide me, to ask me questions. There are very small to very large details to this piece from color, to shape, and form. These details were in large part not preplanned and a manifestation of content. Also, each print will have a completely unique spraypaint stencil hand embellishment. " - Shark Toof

Two Girls & Three Tigers Show is 18 x 19 Inches Archival Pigment Print on 330gsm Fine Art Paper with an edition of 30.

There is also a Hand-Embellished Edition of 15 for sale too.

This RUN comes signed, numbered and with a Certificate of Authenticity
