Guzu Gallery Presents: Children of the 80s - An Art Exhibition Celebrating Cartoons & Toys from the Raddest Decade Ever

Guzu Gallery Presents: Children of the 80s
For the generation of children who grew up in the so-called "Decade of Excess", everything that was important about the 80s, everything that mattered, happened on Saturday morning. Forget the Cold War and the war against drugs. Forget the Iran-Contra Scandal. It was all about Saturday morning! So many awesome cartoons! So many awesome toy commercials! Every cartoon had a toy line and every toy line had its cartoon (yes, kids actually played with toys a very, very long time ago). It was a magical era for sure…and Guzu intends to serve up a slice of that nostalgia this summer at their art exhibition titled Children of the 80s. Join Guzu Gallery as they celebrate the cartoons and toys from the raddest decade ever!

The opening reception was this past Friday and the artwork will remain up through August 30th. Be sure to sport your best (or worst) 80s attire! Blue eyeliner, leg warmers, hair by Aqua Net and Members Only jackets are encouraged (as is wearing your sunglasses at night). Guzu will also be featuring an array of vintage toys from the collection of Outlaw Moon Games & Toys. Admission is free and all ages are welcome!

Guzu Gallery welcomes everyone to the show but if you can't make it out, the artwork will be available for purchase in their online store on Monday, August 4th around Noon CST.

Seems like everyone loves Wrigley Field, the Cubs and the food when it comes to Chicago. Now if Chicago could just do something about the Dan Ryan expressway it just might be perfect, I don't like that freeway at all.

Baker Prints The Windy City Chicago Free Friday Poster Giveaway

101 comments:

I have been doing giveaways on the blog for over 4 years now and those of you that have been fans for all these years know I have given away some really good stuff. Today's giveaway ranks in the top 5 of the best ever. I had been talking with Kyle Baker of Baker Prints off and on for a while at Flatstock in Chicago a couple of weeks back and got around to asking him hey would you like to do a giveaway on the blog. He said sure how about The Windy City print of Chicago. Kyle created the print in collaboration with his father Terry Baker, it's a painstakingly-crafted illustration of Chicago icons and architecture being playfully blown away. The effort, from start to finish, was easily the largest art project either of them have ever undertaken. My mouth hit the ground when he offered it and I think I said 3 or 4 times "are you sure ?". The reason I was so surprised, is that he sells these for $220 a piece and this is one serious piece of art.

The Windy City print is a massive 36 x 24 inch 16 color screen print with a signed and numbered edition of 456. It also comes with a legend that let's you know what all the places, people and things are on the print. Click the image above to enlarge it and see all the detail.

Now go to the top of the post above the picture and click on comments or scroll down (depends on how you see this post) to leave a comment what you like about Chicago to have a chance at winning the poster. Don't worry if your comment does not appear immediately I have to approve them before they are published. I will use the Random Number Generator to pick a winner. Entries are limited to ONE PER PERSON PER HOUSEHOLD. Please leave your name with the comment, comments without names will not be accepted. Entries will be accepted until 11:59 PM PDT Saturday August 2 with the winner announced on Sunday.

BIG TIME THANK YOU to Kyle Baker for providing this print for the giveaway this week. Be sure to check out all the other posters and prints he has at BakerPrints.com

Ron Zakrin Defiance In The Hour Of Darkness Print

No comments:

1xRUN will be releasing a way cool new print by Ron Zarkin today titled Defiance In The Hour Of Darkness and some paintings from him as well.

"The piece was meant to be part of my Assassin Nation series, but it does not rely on the series for context because at its core it's a tribute to my early days of raising hell and evading capture by law enforcement, which, I am proud to say, I was remarkably good at. The series is a way for me to portray human nature with all of its flaws in a condensed manner, it could just as easily have been a bunch of plumbers, but the Assassin works for me because of the black costumes they wear gives me consistency and simplicity of form. When I get into a series, I have to explore it, run it into the ground, pick it up and dust it off, make it concrete." - Ron Zakrin

On sale Friday at NOON EDT at 1xRUN.com

Peter Adamyan Trailer Park Jesus & Mary Porcelain Plates & Paintings

No comments:

This just might be one of the funniest releases ever from 1xRUN as Peter Adamyan delivers Trailer Park Jesus & Mary Porcelain Plates plus the original paintings frames with real used tires.

"The original piece was a look at how religion changes the images of their deities to fit new followers and I wanted to make a Jesus and Mary that would fit into the poor right wing whites in this country, or at least the stereotype of what that means. To keep with that theme I thought it would be great to print the images on a kitch item which you might find decorating the homes of the trailer park residents.

My latest body of work "Salvation Mini Mart" is an exploration of how religion is a tool to market ideas and the personal agendas of politicians, dictators and religious leaders throughout the centuries. It's also about what America holds near and dear to their hearts, capitalism and mass consumption. How the right wing which acts like they have a direct lineage to Jesus ignore the fact that their free market ideals are in direct contrast to Jesus's teachings.

These pieces were from my solo show last year at lOAKal Gallery in Oakland, called Salvation Mini Mart. The show had to do with how religion changes over time and how Christianity in particular can change in a nation like the US which is so consumer driven.

The original pieces were done with oil on a wood panel, each has their own custom frame made from a whole car tire. The plates are printed in a Chinese factory like most goods in the US." - Peter Adamyan

The plates will be sold in sets or individually. The paintings and plates all go on sale Saturday August 2 at NOON EDT at 1xRUN.com
