Skullamania Print Release Justin Santora, Phineas Jones, Michael Hacker Galerie F Exclusive

Part of their ongoing Galerie F Exclusive releases, they offer four amazing artists and over a dozen new original art prints all printed at FugScreens Studios in Chicago. This month's theme is the human skull - the artists interpretation ranges from morbid, existential, chic, and downright adorable. Michael Hacker's eight print release stems from an original watercolor painting set that was translated digitally to create these four layer silkscreen works. Justin Santora has created an art print variant of his popular Rise Against gig poster, with stunning detail and a good taste of Midwestern depression. JC Rivera is a new artist to the Galerie F roster - Rivera brings his street art history into the world of printmaking by translating his hand-drawn sketches into bold simple prints. Phineas Jones expands upon his love for cephalopod with '8 Limbs Good,' available in two colors and two ways to contemplate death by octopus.

The Impossible Octophant Print Project By Phineas X. Jones

Phineas X. Jones has a project he needs your help with, here are the details from him:

Earlier this year, I was pleased to be commissioned by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events to create a piece for public consumption and edification. "The Impossible Octophant" has been on display at the Van Buren Metra stop just south of the Art Institute of Chicago for the duration of the Summer of 2012. For one glorious season, this unlikely zoological amalgam has been confusing tourists and locals alike - but it will be coming down in a few weeks and I don't want the magic to end.
My Octophant started as a screen print, he's had four subsequent screen print incarnations, and I think this version needs to be a screen print as well. But this will be a rather more complicated screen printing task than I normally undertake myself. To that end I have enlisted the amazing printing skills and experience of Mr. Dan MacAdam of Crosshair Silkscreen Design to help me make this image the most impressive printed reality possible.
But Dan's printing mastery does not come cheaply, and neither do paper and other supplies. So, just to cover the upfront costs of this I am using Indiegogo as a way to take pre-orders of this print. With a sufficient number of pre-orders printing and supply costs can be covered from the outset, and you (assuming you are pre-ordering) can be sure to get what is going to be a very impressive print.

 What is it I am pre-ordering, again?

The end result of this project will be a stack of "The Impossible Octophant" screen prints. They will be:

• 20" x 18.75"
• Printed on French 100 Lb. Cover cardstock
• At least 10 screens
• Signed and Numbered. I am expecting an edition ~200, but if demand is high it could be larger. However, it will be a strictly limited edition and there will not be another printing.

So, how much?Pre-orders for this print will be $45 per print. This will include priority USPS shipping in the US or first-class shipping to Canada. International pre-orders will be $50 to cover the extra shipping cost.
And note that the cost of the print after pre-ordering has closed will be higher.

The slow onset of Autumn naturally turns all our thoughts to Death and darkness. I'm sure you all look forward to actually fun holidays like Halloween and Dia de los Muertos before we have to start thinking about nonsense like family togetherness and goodwill toward men.

In that spirit, the Chicago Printmakers Collective is holding a show called Danse Macabre for the months of September and October. And this semi-autobiographical print is my contribution to that show.

Chi-Noceros Print by Phineas X. Jones

Dusk Variant

For quite a long time the only thing rarer around here than a wild rhinoceros has been a for-sale Chi-Noceros. But finally a new batch has been produced and released to graze upon the urban veldt of Chicago.

There are, in fact, two variants of the Chi-Noceros available. The main version, printed on Speckletone Kraft paper, and the "Dusk" version, printed on Steel Blue paper. Both versions are rather small editions and will not likely be around long. (As of this writing, only 13 of the Dusk variant are still available.) If you've been waiting for a Chi-Noceros, act now.

3 New Posters on sale from Phineas X. Jones including Lollapalooza 2010

Phineas had the surprising opportunity to do the commemorative poster for Lollapalooza 2010. The design was based on posters for the 1893 Columbian Exposition for the classical and epic feel.

This one is not a screenprint, as it's a full-color painting (done in Photoshop). Instead it's a 4-color offset print with some spot metallic in the large type, printed on matte paper 18 x 24 inches. And it looks really good if you don't mind my mentioning.

These are from his allotment of the posters that were sold at the fest. But I can tell you that prints will be signed.

Lollapalooza 2010 Poster by Phineas X. Jones

Phineas X. Jones created the official poster for this weekends Lollapalooza 2010 Festival in Chicago.

It's not a screen print for reasons that should be obvious. But it's printed with a matte finish and a bit of metallic sparkle in the gold type and it looks just really great.

The Unfathomable Octophant Art Print by Phineas X. Jones

An all-new revisitiation of the original, unfathomable creature of the unspeakable deep. Now with some visiting friends, and one possibly rather ambivalent deep sea diver.

This is both the largest edition and most technically involved screen print he has yet made. This is the big one people. And, as so often in the past, the effects of the multiple metallic screens is pretty impossible to convey with photography. Please believe that this looks 229% better in person according to Phinea. Octolope Print by Phineas X. Jones

Since the beginnings of serious deep sea exploration following World War II, explorers and scientists have been consistently baffled by the discovery of what appear to be deer antlers found on the ocean floor at the greatest depths they could reach. At first these discoveries were discounted as some fluke of freshwater currents running through some hypothesized deer graveyard leading to the sea and being washed to deep water by ocean currents.

But when, in late 2008, a Japanese exploration team's robotic submersible caught fleeting video of an antler-bearing cephalopod an unexpected and previously quite unimaginable answer to the mystery was found. The "Octolope", as it is now being referred to, is otherwise unknown to biology. How or why a creature appearing so like a common octopus would be in possession of such a terrestrial feature is a question sure to be subject of intense inquiry for the forseeable future.
