Kilian Eng Picnic at Hanging Rock Poster Release

No comments:

In partnership with the Peter Weir Collection, this Friday Black Dragon Press is releasing Kilian Eng's fantastic new poster for 'Picnic at Hanging Rock'.

Visually mesmerizing, moody and mysterious, it is perhaps no surprise that Kilian counts 'Picnic at Hanging Rock' as top of the list of his favorite movies and has resulted in Kilian creating a very personal illustration, very different in many respects to his retro-futuristic work, but still unmistakably Kilian Eng

"I still remember when I saw Picnic at Hanging Rock for the first time and how it left me with a feeling that very few films had before. There was of course the mysterious disappearance of the girls that fascinated me, and also the whole Victorian aesthetic set against the untamed and ruthless Australian wilderness, captured so masterfully in the film. All this accompanied by the haunting pan pipe music and beautiful piano melodies. I still find myself wondering from time to time what happened on that rock on Valentine's day 1900." - Kilian Eng

"A synopsis of the film in a single frame. Such fine work." - Peter Weir.

11-colour 24" x 36" Hand-Pulled Screen Print
270gsm Superfine Softwhite Eggshell Archival Paper
Hand Numbered. Gallery Stamp On The Reverse
Printed by White Duck Screenprint
Limited Edition of 100
£60

'Picnic at Hanging Rock will go on sale this Friday 24 March 2017 at 3pm UK  10am EDT time from the Black Dragon Press shop.

Flash Gordon Poster by Kilian Eng Release From Mondo & The Day the Earth Stood Still

No comments:

Mondo have two awesome releases lined up for Thursday: FLASH GORDON by Kilian Eng and THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL by Methane Studios.

Kilian Eng's name is synonymous with great sci-fi film posters, and with FLASH GORDON he really shows his mastery of color and otherworldly landscape. One of Mondo's favorite artists working on one of their favorite films is always the dream.

"Flash Gordon is a film with a lot of nostalgic value for me so it was a great pleasure to get the opportunity to create a poster for it. What I love most is the total explosion of color, creative costumes and stunning set design. The film has a unique charm that you can't replicate no matter how hard you try. It’s a sci-fi disco adventure full of energy.

The scene I wanted to work with is the whip fight between Flash Gordon and Prince Barin in the Hawkmen’s flying palace. It offered the opportunity for a good solid composition and gave me a chance to draw a lot of characters/costumes and the setting together in a natural way.” - Kilian Eng

Mondo love Georgia's Methane Studios for their ability to handle a seemingly infinite number of varying aesthetics. They really came through with a stark Russian Constructivist look that works perfectly for Cold War parable THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL. Bold, clean, and simple.

"I grew up a huge science fiction fan and remember when my Dad suggested that I check out The Day The Earth Stood Still. I was a little skeptical because it was in Black & White and this was in the 70s (when Star Wars came out and there were big advances in special effects). But the story was good; plus I thought visually it was well done. And of course you had Gort, one of the more memorable robots in science fiction. I became hooked.

When we were approached to do this we already had a full schedule, but could not resist doing this for my old man since he turned me on to the movie in the first place. I looked at a lot of old movie posters and decided on a bold, striking image of Gort as he's about to go into action. This one is for you pops!" - Mark McDevitt, Methane Studios

These posters will be available online at a random time on Thursday, July 2nd at Mondotees.com

Kilian Eng Forbidden Planet Poster Release From Dark Hall Mansion

No comments:

Kilian Eng has hooked up with Dark Hall Mansion to create an other worldly poster in revealing its latest officially licensed limited edition print release: "FORBIDDEN PLANET" by contemporary artist, Kilian Eng, on sale THIS Wednesday, June 17th, 2015!

Dark Hall Mansion, under license from Warner Bros. Consumer Products, will release Kilian Eng's futuristic take on the 1956 classic that's shaped the very template of countless Sci-Fi films to come. Kilian's interpretation is at once moody and atmospheric, his approach right from the outset was to specifically make his "Forbidden Planet" about this strange far-flung world, focusing not only on environment but tone. At once organic and quietly futuristic, it allows the viewer to search out classic sci-fi elements, not the least of which is one quite unique and ground breaking robot.

Hued in lovely tones, Kilian's Standard and Variant print editions will be screen printed on foil, allowing restrained highlights of the foil paper substrate to deliberately show through-a sparkling night sky comes to life, glints off a shimmering space ship, and of course, nuanced metal highlights reflect off "Forbidden Planet's" legendary Robby the Robot. Richly printed in warm tones, Kilian's Standard edition comes in at 9-colors and is set off by his wildly colored flora, while his stunning 9-color Variant is all pure icy-cool beauty.

All editions measure 24" x 36," are hand-numbered, and both Standard and Variant editions will be screen printed on Mirri foil paper. There will also be one giclee printed canvas edition with a unique Kilian colorway that simply cries out for a black light.

Kilian Eng's "FORBIDDEN PLANET" limited editions go on sale THIS WEDNESDAY, June 17th, exclusively on Dark Hall Mansion's dedicated store page here: http://www.darkhallmansionstore.com at 9:30 AM PST.

"FORBIDDEN PLANET" Standard Edition of 280 on Mirri foil $65

"FORBIDDEN PLANET" Variant Edition of 50 on Mirri foil $100

"FORBIDDEN PLANET" Canvas Edition of 15 (unique colorway) $250

Moments Lost: Music and Art Inspired by Blade Runner show at Bottleneck Gallery

No comments:

Hey New York join Bottleneck Gallery tonight Saturday, May 31st, as they host the premiere of Analog Sweden's Moments Lost: Music and Art Inspired by Blade Runner.

Taken from theVerge.com, "Moments Lost is a cyberpunk love letter in the form of a concept album. Its goal is simple: to craft new works inspired by the world of Blade Runner. To this end, several musicians, illustrators, and a writer have joined together to create what is essentially a collaborative art project, which will mix up illustration, music, and short stories into one cohesive whole. "It feels to me that the world of LA 2019 lives on independently of the movie now," says one of the creators, Fredrik Segerfalk. "That's why we want to go there to look for new moments."

The opening reception will take place from 7pm-9pm at Bottleneck Gallery on 60 Broadway, Brooklyn, NY 11249.

All artwork and music will be available for purchase the night of the show and any leftover work will go on sale the following day on Sunday, June 1st, at 12pm eastern.

The show will be open to view from May 2nd-May 18th.
