Francesco Francavilla And Jay Shaw Get Out Movie Poster Release By Mondo

No comments:

Jordan Peele’s GET OUT is an absolute gut punch of a film. Not only is it one of the best and most important movies to come out so far in 2017, Mondo ranks it among the top movies of the last several years. The film tells the story of an interracial couple, Chris and Rose, as they travel to Rose's family estate to spend a weekend with her parents. Things get increasingly dark as the visit goes on and more sinister discoveries come to light about her family’s past.

Mondo are beyond excited to have two incredible posters available for the film by Francesco Francavilla and Jay Shaw, each rife with rich subtext, themes and imagery, available tomorrow in celebration of the home video release. Francesco’s poster features Chris trapped in the vast expanse of the sunken place, while Jay takes a visceral approach in illustrating themes touched upon in the film.

The fact that GET OUT was Jordan Peele's directorial debut is all the more impressive and they absolutely cannot wait to see what other stories he has to share with the world. GET OUT is available on Blu-Ray/home video Tuesday and they highly recommend picking it up and watching it immediately.

These posters will be available at a random time tomorrow (5/23) on Mondotees.com

Kilian Eng And Jay Shaw Posters Release From Mondo

No comments:

HIGH-RISE is the latest masterpiece from one of Mondo's favorite filmmakers, Ben Wheatley. The film, based on the J.G. Ballard novel of the same name, tells the story of Robert Laing and his ascension through the brutal social ranks of a residential tower block in 1970s England. While the film was in pre-production, Mr. Wheatley asked Jay Shaw to create a conceptual image to represent the overarching narrative. The building is presented with the entrance on the top floors. You’re either born up there or you don’t get in at all.

Kilian Eng’s poster for SILENT RUNNING typifies everything Mondo love about his work. It’s an absolute feast for the eyes but retains a serene atmospheric quality. Bruce Dern’s communion with his robotic compatriots in the center of the derelict space-greenhouse is the perfect visual summation of the film’s themes.

Both posters will be available Thursday (5/12) at a random time via Mondotees.com.

Jay Shaw Darling Movie Poster Mondo Release

1 comment:

Mondo are excited to release a poster by Jay Shaw for Mickey Keating’s awesome new thriller, Darling, which is now available on VOD and in select theaters!

Here's what Jay had to say about the film and poster:
"Mickey Keating’s DARLING is a hyper-stylish exploration of isolation and contained madness. The narrative is primarily driven by Lauren Ashley Carter’s outstanding physical expressiveness. The film almost feels like a collection of haunting black & white moving snapshots. The poster is meant to be one of those."
The poster is 18"x24" screen print. Hand numbered. Edition of 75.

American Dreamer & Bone Tomahawk Movie Posters Release From Mondo

No comments:

On Friday Mondo will have remaining copies of The American Dreamer by Jay Shaw. If you've never seen the documentary, it's an up close look at Dennis Hopper at his home while shooting his film, "The Last Movie," in the early 70s... and it's crazy. Here's what Jay had to say on his poster:
"When we were asked to create a poster for The American Dreamer I was instantly overwhelmed. I’ve seen the film several times and absolutely love it. It’s a candid and endearing portrait of Dennis Hopper’s maniacal creative process. Lawrence Schiller, the film’s [co-] director and acclaimed photojournalist, sent a collection of photographs he’d taken during production back in 1971. When I saw these wonderful photos I realized there was nothing we’d be able to illustrate that would capture the essence of this film in the same way. One photo in particular stood out: Dennis sitting in the middle of a group of devotees smiling toward the viewer. There’s an optimism and naiveté in that image I just love. It’s a moment you imagine Dennis would want to bask in if he could."
The American Dreamer by Jay Shaw. 24"x18" screen print. Hand numbered. Edition of 120.

Mondo will also have an absolutely gorgeous new poster for Bone Tomahawk by Matthew Woodson. Matthew's illustration work is on an entirely new level at the moment and they couldn't be more excited about what he delivered for one of their favorite - and most brutal - westerns to come out in the last several years.

Bone Tomahawk by Matthew Woodson. 18"x36" screen print. Hand numbered. Edition of 275.

Both posters will be on sale Friday at a random time on Mondotees.com

Jay Shaw The Battle of Algiers Movie Poster Release From FAMP Art Exclusive World Premiere

No comments:

Continuing FAMP Art’s tradition of shedding light on some of the greatest foreign films ever made, they’re excited to announce their next officially licensed release for the 1966 seminal Italian/Algerian co-production, The Battle of Algiers.

Considered one of the most influential political films ever, Gillo Pontecorvo’s The Battle of Algiers focuses on an important year in the Algerian struggle for independence from the French in the 1950s. As time goes on, the level of violence rises as the Algerians utilize guerilla tactics to attack French soldiers and civilians while the soldiers opt for torturing the insurgents. Filmed in a vivid documentary style on the streets of Algiers, The Battle of Algiers is as relevant today is it was 60 years ago due to its study of warfare in the modern age, terrorist attacks vs the harsh techniques used to counter them.

Gillo Pontecorvo’s incredibly important film still remains on many “greatest films of all-time” lists and was nominated for three Academy Awards. The score was composed by the legendary Ennio Morricone and shot in a documentary style to bring us into the heart of the conflict. The film showcases both the French and Algerian points of view so as to be as balanced as possible, choosing not to show any sort of favoritism to one side.

To capture the essence of the film, FAMP Art teamed up with artist and designer Jay Shaw to illustrate a poster that would be representative of the film and the struggles within. The design is simple, bold and, with the events going on around the world today, some might say even risqué. The film’s origins are in multiple languages, but they opted to release a print with the French title treatment, acting as a balancing mechanism to the Algerian focused illustration, similar to the way the film is structured.

The Battle of Algiers by Jay Shaw will go on sale via the FAMP Art website on February 18th at 12pm EST. The screen print measures 18”x24”, will cost $35, and is an edition of 40. The print ships World Wide except to Italy.

Jay Shaw The Keeping Room Movie Poster Release From Mondo

No comments:

Mondo's next release is close to home with a poster for Drafthouse Films' THE KEEPING ROOM by Jay Shaw. THE KEEPING ROOM tells the story of three women living together during the twilight of the American Civil War. When a pair of wayward soldiers discover the women living on their own, the trio is forced to defend themselves and their home against violent invasion.

Said Jay of the film and his poster: "The film plays like a feminist STRAW DOGS set in 1865. I loved everything about this story. Brit Marling’s portrayal of the steely matron of the house is especially captivating. In the poster she’s portrayed as a woman on fire, flanked by the graves of the men who once protected her alongside the graves of those who crossed her path for the wrong reasons.”

The Keeping Room by Jay Shaw. 18"x24" screen print. Hand numbered. Edition of 75.

Jay Shaw The Look of Silence Poster Release From Mondo

No comments:

On Tuesday Mondo are releasing a poster for Drafthouse Films' THE LOOK OF SILENCE, an incredible documentary by Joshua Oppenheimer, and companion to the Oscar-nominated THE ACT OF KILLING released in 2012. They're incredibly excited to release Jay Shaw's striking poster for the film, a follow-up to his ACT OF KILLING poster from a couple years back.

From Drafthouse Films:
Through Oppenheimer’s footage of perpetrators of the 1965 Indonesian genocide, a family of survivors discovers how their son was murdered, as well as the identities of the killers. The documentary focuses on the youngest son, an optometrist named Adi, who decides to break the suffocating spell of submission and terror by doing something unimaginable in a society where the murderers remain in power: he confronts the men who killed his brother and, while testing their eyesight, asks them to accept responsibility for their actions. This unprecedented film initiates and bears witness to the collapse of fifty years of silence.

Jay Shaw I Declare War Poster Release Details From Mondo

No comments:

Mondo will release Jay Shaw's poster for the brand new Drafthouse Films release, I DECLARE WAR today.

In case you haven't heard of the film, here is a synopsis:"Armed with nothing more than twigs, their imaginations and a simple set of rules, a group of 12-year-olds engaged in a lively game of Capture the Flag in the neighborhood woods start dangerously blurring the lines between make-believe and reality."

Jay's art pays homage to some iconic war movie imagery, while joyfully playing with the childish innocence captured in the film.

Jay Shaw The Act of Killing Movie Poster Release from Mondo

No comments:

Mondo are releasing a poster in conjunction with Drafthouse Films' release of the critically acclaimed THE ACT OF KILLING. Jay Shaw did the poster and it measures 18 x 24 with an edition of 100

In this chilling and inventive documentary, the filmmakers examine a country where death squad leaders are celebrated as heroes, challenging them to reenact their real-life mass-killings in the style of the American movies they love. The hallucinatory result is a cinematic fever dream, an unsettling journey deep into the imaginations of mass-murderers and the shockingly banal regime of corruption and impunity they inhabit.

This poster will be available online at a random time on Wednesday, July 17th at Mondotees.com

Jay Shaw A Band Called Death Poster Release Details from Mondo

No comments:
Poster by Jay Shaw. 18"x24" screen print. Hand numbered. Edition of 100.

Mondo will be releasing their poster for Drafthouse Films' recent acquisition, a documentary called A BAND CALLED DEATH. For their fans who have never heard of punk trio DEATH, watch the trailer for the film HERE. Their story is fascinating.

In short, they were a band who's sound, some say, pre-dates The Ramones and Sex Pistols in originating Punk Rock as we know it. Trouble is, they were an all-black band with a controversial name that made record labels weary of their marketability, and so their album never got released. Unbeknownst to them, their only release, a 7" single, became a secret success in the underground vinyl collectors market. It ultimately drove the band to reunite and find unexpected success 35 years after the recording of the material.

A BAND CALLED DEATH captures the fall and unexpected rise of a band who's singular vision paid off in unexpected ways. Mondo are super excited to release their new poster by Jay Shaw. Be sure to check out the film, now on VOD, when it comes out in select theaters courtesy of Drafthouse Films.

RoboCop by Jay Shaw & Mud Movie Poster Release Details

1 comment:

Poster by Jay Shaw. 18"x24" screen print. Hand numbered. Edition of 150.

Poster by We Buy Your Kids. 24"x36" screen print. Hand numbered. Edition of 145.

Tomorrow, Mondo will have a beautiful new poster from We Buy Your Kids for the upcoming film, MUD, which opens in select theaters this Friday and is really good. They will also have a great poster from Jay Shaw for ROBOCOP!

For the first-ever Denver area Tough Guy Cinema, Mondo commissioned Littleton artist Jay Shaw to create a suitably melancholic alt-art film poster for the iconic '80s flick.  Shaw had this to say about his reimagined RoboCop imagery:
"I've always seen Robocop as a modern Frankenstein (or Prometheus) story. The monster is a reflection of his creator's narcissistic ambition. Like the Frankenstein monster, Robocop is ultimately betrayed by his makers and resigns to punish them. The themes of mad science and corporate inhumanity are represented here by a single bloody teardrop underneath a fractured Omni Consumer Products logo. I decided to utilize Polish language because the style of the piece calls to that of film posters produced in Poland during the mid-twentieth century. "Superglina," the Polish title of the film, translates literally to "Supercop" but can also mean "Violent Force".
These posters will be available online at a random time on Thursday, April 25th at Mondotees.com

Tyler Stout & Jay Shaw Repo Man Movie Posters Release Details from Mondo

No comments:

Tyler Stout

Jay Shaw
Fans of Tyler Stout & Jay Shaw are getting a big treat this week from Mondo.  Jay Shaw and Tyler Stout have once again designed the hell out of some unique, modernized, and eye-popping posters for a retro film; in this case, the film in question is the 1984 science fiction cult classic Repo Man, in which Emilio Estevez plays a punk rocker who becomes a repossession agent, meets a beautiful girl, and discovers four alien corpses in the trunk of a 1964 Chevrolet Malibu. You know, that old story.

Mondo's pair of excellent posters are being released in conjunction with Repo Man's April 16 re-release via The Criterion Collection—Shaw's artwork serves as the Criterion disc's cover, while Stout's design appears on the inner sleeve.

Here are the details on the posters

REPO MAN by Jay Shaw
Edition of 195 Size: 18x24

REPO MAN by Tyler Stout
Edition of 510 Regular / 220 Glow in the Dark Variant
Size: 18x24

RoboCop Jay Shaw Mondo Movie Poster

1 comment:

When the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema's Tough Guy Cinema presentation of RoboCop hits on Monday, April 8 fans of the film are in for a treat. Not only do they get to see the finest dystopian sci-fi action film ever made on the big screen -- complete with live, in-theater pyrotechnics! -- they also will get a chance to own a limited-edition piece of genuine RoboCop fine art, thanks to Mondo, Drafthouse's art division.

For the first-ever Denver area Tough Guy Cinema, Mondo commissioned Littleton artist Jay Shaw to create a suitably melancholic alt-art film poster for the iconic '80s flick.  Shaw had this to say about his reimagined RoboCop imagery:

"Superglina," the Polish title of the film, translates literally to "Supercop" but can also mean "Violent Force".

A small number of limited edition prints of the artwork can be purchased at the screening for $35, and Shaw himself will be on hand. If you miss your shot there, you can try to pick one up later at the Mondo website.

Jay Shaw's exclusive poster for the 'Starry Eyes' Kickstarter

No comments:

Here is Jay Shaw's exclusive Kickstarter poster for 'Starry Eyes,' a feature horror film co-directed by Dennis Widmyer

Jay also did the artwork for their Kickstarter page and official website: www.starryeyesfilm.com.

Jay has been amazing about supporting the film. And if this isn't enough, here are some other cool things they're offering to donors:
The film is being produced by Travis Stevens ('The Aggression Scale,' 'A Horrible Way To Die') who just had two films play at SXSW this week ('Cheap Thrills' and 'Big Ass Spider.')

The Kickstarter has great rewards: Not only do they have this exclusive new art print from Jay Shaw, but Chuck Palahniuk is thanking donors in his upcoming 2014 novel 'Beautiful You.'

Also offering Producer credit, speaking roles, set visits, the opportunity to die in the film's climax, Blu-rays, T-shirts and more.

Also if you only want the poster they have a reward for just that as well

Oh, and all 17 posters from Shaw's Blue Underground set, as featured in his Mondo gallery last year.

Amityville Horror Movie Poster by Jay Shaw Release Details

No comments:

For Skuzzles latest limited edition silk screened movie poster they wanted to do a little something special for Valentines Day and commemorate two of their favorite lovers, George and Kathy Lutz. Actually to be honest, Valentines Day ended up falling on the same week of their poster drop, so they're just going with this story. Skuzzles' poster release this week is for one of their favorite supernatural films The Amityville Horror, featuring artwork by Jay Shaw.

They felt that too many posters in the past have focused on The Amityville Horror house entirely and asked Jay to come up with something a little different. This task was definitely hard since the house is so iconic, but they knew Jay could pull something off. Jay managed to capture the classic feel of The Amityville Horror and gave it a brand new look. Here is what Jay had to say about working on this poster:
"As you know I tend to follow the Polish school of poster design so my stuff is usually very conceptual and a bit weird. I'm not a big fan of obvious design. I also like strong central images on top of stark backgrounds. To me you get the most visual punch doing things that way.

Out of the chimney is pouring a highly detailed smokey ectoplasm that makes up George's face. Replacing George's eyes are the infamous windows that serve as the house's eyes. The idea here is that George is becoming the evil that is the house. It's also a nod to his incessant "chill" and need to stack log after log into the fireplace."
There will be 3 versions of this poster available, here's a summary of the details:

Amityville Horror Regular Edition
Size 18" x 24" featuring 6 colors
Edition size of 100
Printed on thick French Madero Beach paper

Amityville Horror Glow in the Dark Variant Edition
Size 18" x 24" featuring 7 colors and glow in the dark (GID) inks

Bottleneck Gallery's Gizmos and Gadgets Show Preview World Premier Exclusive Godmachine Hellboy

2 comments:

Bottleneck Gallery's first show in 2013 will be Gizmos and Gadgets. The show starts this Friday, January 18th and will end February 3rd. Opening reception will be from 7pm-10pm.

The show will be benefitting the Humane Society via a few ebay auctions as well as a portion of the proceeds earned from sales at the gallery. Last year they raised over $4k in 4 shows and the screenings held before the gallery opening. Obviously couldn’t have done it without everyone's support.

Online preview sale: Check Bottleneck Gallery's Facebook Page for updates
Opening Date: January 18th 7pm-10pm
Online Sale: January 19th 12pm eastern

It is a common saying that a man’s best friend....are his Gizmos and Gadgets? Sorry animal lovers but at this show, this new adage rings true. We are constantly reminded by popular culture that in a time of great need, there is nothing better to have at your side than something conjured up by man. Whether the Gizmo or Gadget’s idea came about while on the toilet, was made in the deep recesses of a dark and rodent filled cave, or just simply provides the speed necessary to get you from point A to point B (while eluding your followers), Bottleneck’s newest show focuses on the material items made popular by your favorite movies, television shows and books. Each artist will present a piece depicting a Gizmo or Gadget that has shaped our culture in some way, shape or form. Who said being materialistic was a bad thing....?
