Mike Giant Slammed Print Release

No comments:

Mike Giant has released a new print titled Slammed and some original art work through 1xRUN.
"This poster graphic was assembled using pieces from various drawings in a series I call “Slammed” featuring lowriders, guns and various other things. I moved to Albuquerque with my family in 1979. It was there that I discovered lowriders. I’ve been fascinated by them ever since, but never had one of my own. Then last year I bought a 1984 Chevy Kurbmaster box van to play with. I’m putting air bag suspension on it so the frame will sit on the ground when it’s parked. As a result of this project, lowriders have been on my mind a lot more than usual lately so it should be no surprise that they’re also the subject of many of my recent illustrations." - Mike Giant

The print is 24 x 18 Inches Letterpress Print on Hand-Deckled 290gsm Coventry Rag Fine Art Paper.

Mike Giant Burning Angel Print Release

No comments:

Mike Giant will have a new 2-Color Letterpress print release with 1xRUN on Friday titled Burning Angel.

“I’m just revisiting a classic theme with this one. I’m fascinated by people who give up their lives for their faith. I feel like I’m widely known for my drawings of tattooed women. I’ve been drawing them for decades. Nothing new there really. 1xRUN liked a drawing I did many years ago in a similar fashion so I decided to just create a new piece based on the same theme. I dug through my old photos of friends and found one of Elisa Turpin that I thought would work well for this project. I printed out the photo of Elisa and mapped the contours of her face and body on tracing paper. Then I sketched on the flames and tattoos. All the sketching took about 10 hours. Once the sketch was done, I taped it to the back of a clean sheet of paper, put it on the light table and started inking the final drawing. The inking took about 10 hours to complete.” - Mike Giant

Mike Giant 4:20 Print

No comments:

1xRUN has a new print from Mike Giant that is nice looking letterpress print titled 4:20.

"These designs fit within my “Modern Hieroglyphics” series. Last year I was studying a lot of Egyptian hieroglyphs, trying to decipher their meaning based simply on what they looked like. Then I started to look at classic American tattoo designs and corporate logos in the same way. I tried to observe them as static objects, without their current meaning. When I imagine 500 years in the future, I believe the people at that time will look at our logos and tattoo designs in much the same way that I look at Egyptian iconography. So, in a way, this series is my gift to the future." - Mike Giant

Mike Giant Cop Killer Print

5 comments:

Mike Giant has been living in Colorado for about 6 months now and the Rebel8 crew went out to see him and to draw inspiration for the upcoming Rebel8 line of clothing. They met a guy and started shooting things. A thousand rounds in, Mike Giant busted out these targets that are now for sale as a print. He personally shot, signed, and numbered each and every one.

Clearly these are not for everybody. But then again, so is REBEL8. I want it noted I do not in any way condone shooting of any law enforcement official. No matter what they did or what you think they did.

The prints are signed & numbered 80/80 original Mike Giant print. Each print is completely unique as they were used as targets at a private shooting range in Colorado. Size: 22" x 32"

Available now at REBEL8.com

Mike Giant's "Toypunks" mascot revealed by Reckless Toys...

No comments:

We have been seeing teasers pop up all over the internet, in illustration forms, little bits and pieces, for the past year about Reckless Toys flagship figure release the "TOYPUNKS MASCOT" designed by Mike Giant... nothing has been concrete until now. Even the guys over at Bigshot Toyworks, who were in charge of the sculpting for this figure, have been keeping things very close to their chest.

Reckless Toys did a really great job spearheading this figure into production organizing all parties involved and in the end created an awesome piece that represents Mike Giant's vision. This will be available in the fall at New York Comic Con, and also at select retailers and at RecklessToys.com.

Walrus TV Artist Feature: Mike Giant Interview from “Dithers”

No comments:
I was at a skate spot that we had been painting, and I ate shit, real bad and it shook the ground. And this kid I was skating with said, ‘Damn, you went down like a giant!’ That was it; I started writing Giant from then on out.
-Mike Giant

Mike Giant’s art is found on skateboards, walls, t-shirts, and even skin. Although found in different forms and venues, his signature black & white style holds true to the sense of urban surrealism often linked to the skateboard, tattoo and graffiti culture, while still being recognizably unique. Mike Giant’s art has been displayed in galleries from San Francisco, where he resides, to Los Angeles, Spain and Australia. He has also launched his own clothing line, Rebel 8, which highlights his work on everything from tees to hats. Watch the interview from “Dithers,” available for the first time to the public for free, on Walrus TV.
