Rob Jones Jack White London Posters Release

No comments:

Rob Jones recently summoned sheets for Jack White's majestic 3 night stand at the Hammersmith or whatever they're calling that joint now.

He took a note from his recent cool hand haute couture and imagined the C369 identification as something different.

For nights 2 & 3 there is an uncut version featuring both posters which Rob attempted to imbue with the quasi-confrontational aspect of the "I'm Shakin'" video. Rob's a sucker for doubling.

Night one is 24 x 36 inches. 2 & 3 are 18 x 24 inches. All the posters are 3 color screen prints with a signed & numbered edition of 342.

Jack White Los Angeles Poster By Rob Jones

No comments:

Rob Jones did the first poster celebrating Jack White's current tour for "Boarding House Reach" album. Concert happened at The Mayan in Los Angeles last week.

Inspired by the song "Over and Over and Over" and the cover to "Technical Ecstasy", although the figures on that cover were having a better time than the pair of Jacks here.

Poster is a 18 x 24 inch screen print with a signed & numbered edition of 276.

Rob Jones Raconteurs Posters & Art Prints

No comments:

Rob Jones has put his remaining copies of the Raconteurs 2011 posters up for sale as singles. He wrote a fun fact for each image on their individual pages so there was something new to read about them.

Rob also released 3 new Grief prints as well that he intended for last years Mondocon. He wound up not having a table and choosing instead sanity and breath.

Thirdman Records Pressing Opening Rob Jones Poster

No comments:

Rob Jones made some shiny paper to commemorate the grand opening of Third Man Pressing, the new state of the art pressing facility attached to Third Man Records in Detroit. Rob thinks it looks to be a hell of joint, like what he would imagine a record plant looks like in the future in a movie made in the 80's, like "Looker" or something. That sort of possible flying car future that never seems to arrive. So paint your Honda like a tardis and head to Motor City and get a peek at progress.

Rob had a little help from Nat Strimpooulos and Roe Peterhans. Roe observed the half globe looked a bit like the spoke street layout for downtown Detroit and sent Rob a quick map to illustrate. He thought that was an interesting echo to use on the pressing plate at the bottom and included it in its center.

The poster is 24 X 36 inches and a 3 color screen print including 2 metallic silver inks
on 100 lb French Pop-tone “Lemon Drop” cover stock paper
Artist Edition of 123 signed and numbered.

Rob Jones Gog Vinyl Figures

No comments:

The phantoms of Rob Jones' mind have now entered a third dimension, GOG.

Dan Willett, the warlock behind Unbox Industries crafted a vinyl figure based on a character Rob created for one of his past gigposters. Gog has his roots as one of the legendary protectors of the city of London. A statue of him and Magog, his snappily dressed counterpart, reside in Guildhall while wicker versions of both precede the Lord Mayor each year during his trek to proclaim fealty to the Queen each year. Now he protects Rob's desk from his cats.

Details on each figure
Figure Size:       11.5 inches tall
Box Size:           13.75 X 9.5 X 6 inches
Material:            GID vinyl w/ hand applied black rub, glows blue. The blue has no rub.
Manufacturer:   Unbox Industries
Note:  The staff, chain, and ring that holds the sword are cast in black anodized metal.

Rob has three versions available for purchase, and all three are made from a special vinyl that glows blue in the dark versus the usual GID green.

Rob Jones Third Man Records And White Stripes Posters

No comments:

Rob Jones has a bunch of new posters up for sale.

First up is a an uncut sheet of large-size postcards made to celebrate the Record Store Day release of the complete White Stripes’ Peel Sessions. As with the previous set Rob will be signing the back of each with a small drawing or a short missive likely dealing with buying records.

Rob felt the opening of the new Third Man Records was a good enough excuse to revisit his mega-city image made for a series of 2005 TWS Detroit dates.  For those posters he attempted to emulate the city collage Boris Bilinsky created to advertise the film Metropolis.  For this poster he wanted to try an arrangement more aligned with his usual style and ardor for symmetry.

The original idea for this primary image was to just keep it in print with different colors for the TMR Detroit store, but in light of the Stripes release for RSD Rob thought it might be more interesting to theme it up with the band. Beyond adding the lights this time around, he littered the city with a number of Stripes references including characters and items from past Stripes posters.

Rob Jones Heartless Bastards, The Kills And Spoon Posters

No comments:

Rob Jones just dropped 4 posters from a variety of artists from the last year.

Here are the details from Rob:

THE KILLS: Made for the current tour promoting the immanent release of their newest platter, "Ash & Ice" which my wife and I eagerly await. Oddly enough, I probably jam the Kills with her more than any other band as opposed to KISS which requires private listening lest her eye rolls damage the ceiling.

HEARTLESS BASTARDS: Doubly honored not only to make a poster for the Bastards but for the all important home-town show as well. Cincinnati always has a special place in my heart as it's essentially where my Aunt Diana lives and a place in my stomach as I'm overly fond of Skyline (fuck Gold Star). It's also where my mother was born as it boasted the nearest hospital across the river with lights.

Really connected with their last album, "Restless Ones", as a lot of the lyrics reflected echoes in my own skull. It's a fight forward to trudge away from the bizarre seduction of fear and darkness. Erika is probably more successful at the hike than me.

SPOON: A pair of posters representing yet another collaboration with the eminently talented Chris Everhart from Silent Giants. We bashed our brains together for the final tour poster of Arcade Fire's last tour, and it went so sweetly we tried to recapture the alchemy for Spoon's tour in support of "They Want My Soul".

Rob Jones White Stripes Under Amazonian Lights Uncut Postcard Set

No comments:

For the recent Third Man Records Vault release of “Under Amazonian Lights” Rob Jones was asked to design a few elements for the box set: namely the graphics for the box itself, an enamel pin, DVD on body graphic, and a set of postcards highlighting the three South American dates from the 2005 tour. For these cards Rob thought it would be fun to continue documenting the globetrotting of the Tin Man and Dorothy as seen in the “Under Great White Northern Lights” set. Considering Brazil’s considerable primate population, it seemed appropriate to bring the winged monkeys into the mix.

For Record Store Day, Rob made a set of enlarged screen printed versions. He wanted to keep that version special for TMR and RSD so his copies are all uncut and editioned separately from their divided RSD counterparts. Both versions are printed on special linen paper to mimic antique postcards from days of thoughtful communications past.

Rob is signing these on the back and like the RSD ones, he’ll write a short missive in the last space or maybe draw an exhausted rabbit.

The print is 12 x 23 inches 2 color screen print and includes the 2005 Tour of Brazil: Manaus, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. Signed & numbered edition of 114.

Rob Jones Jack White Posters & More On Sale

1 comment:

Rob Jones is offering the final batch of posters he created for Jack White's electrodazzle tour for “Lazaretto”. The baseball card “pitcher” series for Honolulu, Santiago, & Porto Alegre is being sold only as a set to streamline shipping as they all require flat boxing rather than tubes.

Rob is also placing posters from the Jack White 2012 tour set up for individual sale.

Rob is also offering posters from the Dead Weather 2010 and 2011 tours up for individual sale. Everyone who purchases a Dead Weather “Louisville” poster will get a drawing on the back of a dead mouse, or dead turtle…depends what mood he is in.

They are all on sale right now at www.AnimalRummy.com

Rob Jones Jack White, Arcade Fire, Nick Cave & Arctic Monkeys Posters On Sale Details

No comments:

Rob Jones will have a 14 new posters for purchase on Thursday, October 30. Below is a rundown on each of the offerings. Hopefully you find something pretty enough to nab with a net, stuff into a jar with an ether soaked cotton ball at the bottom, and then proudly display pinned to your wall.

Shipping note: Rob is in the middle of moving to a new house, so there will be a delay in shipping. All items should be out the door by the end of November if not sooner.

JACK WHITE: NORTH AMERICAN TOUR
RED ROCKS
TROUTDALE
BURNABY
COLUMBIA, MD
CLEVELAND
BOSTON: $100
Inks: 4 colors on front and 1 color on the back
Paper: thick chipboard
NOTE: This is double sided poster. Inclusion of this poster in your oder will require additional shipping so it can be sent flat due to the stiffer nature of the chipboard.

NICK CAVE: 20,000 DAYS ON EARTH

The only director who uses triangular film, Nick Cave is the focus of a great new documentary of sorts that lets you walk a day in his stylish shoes.

Drafthouse Films set up special screenings with Nick in attendance in LA, New York, Edmonton, and then back to New York. They wanted a different colorway for each. Screenprinted posters were made for the LA & NY dates, but Canada got an offset of sorts which I'm not offering for sale.

If you're looking for the perfect Nick Cave compliment to your White Stripes wall, then might I recommend the LA version as it's printed on the same red paper as Rob's Under Great White Northern Lights movie poster.

20K DAYS: LA (BLUE): $50
20K DAYS: NY (RED): $50
20K DAYS: NY 2 (SILVER): $50

ARCADE FIRE: NORTH AMERICAN TOUR POSTER
Rob was contacted to create a poster for the last leg of the Arcade Fire North American tour. He picked up the Silent Giants hotline and asked Chris if he wanted to collaborate on it. In the end they created a special 2 poster set. You can frame up the head of Orpheus by himself if you're short on wall space, or you can combine it with the second poster to create an 18X48 beast that tells all who visit your abode, "Hey fella, I really dig Arcade Fire and would appreciate it if you used a coaster."

Due to the massive amount needed on tour, Rob thought it wise to change the colors once they crossed the Canadian border. However, the poster proved more popular than management hoped and so another edition/colorway was created to meet tour demand. The holograph paper version was created specifically for the Brooklyn shows.

So you have a choice of being an admirable completest and getting one of each or just stick with what matches your socks.

Each is two color on white paper except the holo paper version of course.

ARCADE FIRE: BLUE: $45
ARCADE FIRE: SUNSHINE: $40
ARCADE FIRE: PINK: $40
ARCADE FIRE: HOLO PAPER: $55

ARCTIC MONKEYS: RED ROCKS
For their spectacular and rainy Red Rocks show, Rob was tasked to create a poster for Arctic Monkeys. He had a good time working closer with Chris as Silent Giants on Arcade Fire, so Rob asked if wanted to go another round on this one and Rob couldn't be happier with the result.

Jack White Todd Slater Rob Jones San Francisco Posters

No comments:

Todd Slater has just released a couple of stunning posters for Jack White that he did with Rob Jones.

Todd on the idea behind them :

For Jack's two night stand in San Francisco, Rob and I explored the symbolic use of canopic jars. Ancient Egyptians used these in the mummification process to hold specific viscera for the afterlife. The jar for night 1 was designated for the stomach and night 2’s held the guts. You’ll need both if you’re going to survive in this world.

NOTES: 18 x 24 inches /// 3 screens /// signed and numbered artist edition of 120 /// numbered show edition of 369 each sold at shows /// August 22 & 23, 2014 at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, CA

Rob Jones Grief Solo Gallery Show Exclusive Preview

No comments:

Earlier this month I told you about Rob Jones' first ever solo show at Galerie F in Chicago happening Thursday July 17 from 6pm-10pm and now I got some more previews.

Galerie F celebrates its second anniversary with “Grief”, Rob Jones’ first solo exhibition in Chicago. Jones presents a collection one hundred original drawings and screenprints during this four week installation. Join Galerie F as they embark on third third year with Logan Square in their ever-expanding store located at the intersection of Fullerton Ave and Milwaukee Ave. The evening's affairs will be sponsored by local brewpub Revolution Brewing and New York based brewery Brooklyn Beer. Galerie F also welcomes The American Poster Institute and encourages all attending to visit Flatstock at Pitchfork Music Festival the following weekend.

Original works accompanied by limited edition silk screen prints will be available at the opening reception. All remaining works will be posted in Galerie F's online store the following Monday. Opening reception is free and open to the public. Rob Jones will be in attendance and this might be your only chance to meet a Grammy Winner in person, plus he is the man that started the Mondotees Movie poster craze. No the Grammy wont be at the show, I asked.

I asked Rob what the theme of his show is :
I’ve designated these as self portraits since they spring from how I view myself (past and present) through a character I’ve identified with throughout my life. Sometimes other elements are brought in that feel complimentary to Charlie Brown to better visualize the sentiment I’m attempting to express. Some are just illustrations of moments in my life (usually poor decisions) that continue to haunt me or at least induce me to groan to myself, “Oy, that could have gone better.” One lesson made more concrete by this exercise is that I tend to grip the past too tightly. The bad things are like a burner on hot stove. If you keep pressing your hand against it, then of course it’s going to blister. Better to just observe the orange spiral from a distance and fight the temptation to touch it.

That sounds super blue, I know and I should say there are some positives in the show too. However, if you know me, then you will expect more exorcising than ebullience.

All the original drawings are ink and prismacolor marker (Canary Yellow) on French 80lb Speckletone Sand cover stock. The prints for the show will be kept a secret until the night of the show. Originals are 8.5 X 11.  There will be one 18X24 original, but the rest will stick to the aforementioned standard.

If you are going, RSVP to the show on the Facebook Event Page HERE

Nine Inch Nails Austin City Limits Rob Jones Poster World Premiere Exclusive

No comments:

Since 1989 when Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails burst onto the music scene with their sonic assault of industrial music each new album has set the bar higher each time. For 24 years their concerts have been intense impassioned nights of seeing Trent bare his soul to those willing to join the musical journey with him.  His love of music has not waned after all these years. He seemingly got bored recently and wanted to create more music as NIN. From that came the album Hesitation Marks released earlier this year with little to no fan fare or a huge PR blitz. From that came the recent tour titled Tension. If you see just one concert this year make sure you see NIN if they come near you. Trent, I feel is one of few that still makes music because he loves doing it and for no other reason.

Last night in Austin Texas Nine Inch Nails were there to tape a show for Austin City Limits that will be shown next year. Fronting an eight-piece band that included longtime NIN guitarist Robin Finck, backing vocalists Lisa Fischer and Sharlotte Gibson and British bass legend Pino Palladino, Trent Reznor created an atmosphere of tension and release, with songs that offered both discomfort and catharsis. NIN ended the show with its classic anthem “Hurt” – the ultimate in cathartic performance art.

For the special show Rob Jones created the poster and of course Rob nailed it. Also in attendance were Todd Slater and Mike Mitchell who hung out with long time NIN graphic designer, director, and photographer Rob Sheridan.

Rob will have the poster on sale soon so stay tuned until then enjoy the image above.
