N.C. Winters Bad Omen Variant Art Prints Release

No comments:

N.C. Winters is happy to finally be announcing Wave Two (of two) of his recent Bad Omen release. He split the run into two drops to better handle orders of multiple variants. The cotton rag paper is pretty beefy, and even two variants in one tube was pushing it he said. These are the last variants (a total of four- two colorways, in both regular and hand embellished) for this print.

In addition to the penultimate “Vintage” scheme, N.C. couldn’t resist a desaturated monotone colorway. A big part of why he always like a print completely devoid of color is that he gets to show off the painstaking line work these prints take.

 Says N.C.

Ultimately, I feel most skilled with detailed linework, with color being my less strong suit. The “Mono” variant lets me emphasize my strengths. In it you can see the image reduced down to the main four shades of transparent brown that make up the full tonal value range of the print. There’s something about this one I particularly love, as to me it ends up feeling a bit like an old weathered etching. It makes the subtle washes in the hand embellished versions of these some of my favorites of the four (don’t tell Vintage).

Featuring original artwork by supporting ARTivist N.C. Winters (USA), this stunning limited art print edition highlights the beauty, plight, and the importance of one of the most important ecosystems on the planet, coral reefs.

Recent studies have revealed that 50% of the world's coral reefs have already been destroyed due to human impact, and another 40% could be lost over the next 30 years. We must act now if we are to save this irreplaceable marine habitats.

Regular Bleached $100 USD
Deluxe Lush $135 USD
Deluxe Bleached $150 USD

Printed by the good people of VGKids.

Artist Statement:
"The goal behind “Fading Away” was to try and create a visual that brings attention to the urgent plight of coral in the world today. It was challenging to both illustrate the beauty of what we’re rapidly losing due to climate change and pollution, but also underscore the danger of the current situation. Thus, two versions of the print were made. The full “lush” version highlights the overwhelming color and beauty of a natural coral reef, while the “bleached” version emphasizes how much of the coral is looking today, bleached, near dead, and devoid of color. The element of the skull is also more emphasized in this version. It was an intentional reason to include a human skull, to draw the connection to the ocean and ourselves, to highlight the very literal way we can “see” ourselves connected to the ocean. What we will lose from the ocean will be directly felt by us as a human species.

On a technical note, this was one of the most challenging screenprint images I've created to date, with the full color builds and tonal range requiring airtight registration and color accuracy. Many thanks to the printing crew at VGKids for the exceptional job, as well of course, to Tre' Packard, PangeaSeed Foundation Founder and Executive Director, for having me on the project and for his patience in how long the print took to come to fruition." - N.C. Winters

You can help save coral reefs by:

Use reef-friendly sunscreen.
Only consuming sustainably caught sea life.
Reduce your and your family’s carbon footprint.
Eating less meat, try meatless Mondays!
Using less electricity at home.
Saving water.
Using less plastic, and reusing and recycling what you do use.

N.C. Winters A Moment of Magic Art Print Release

No comments:

N.C. Winters has a new art print dropping this week.
This print has been in the works for months now, an art print version of my Dave Matthews Band gig poster from September of last year. I knew I wanted to release the image on its own at some point as an art print, and in working on it since the original, the world has changed in many ways. It’s made it hard at times to continue certain creative plans made in the past, while properly focusing my creative energies on the right way to move forward. Many have expressed that me continuing to make art and do what I’m doing is still appreciated, and that makes some of it easier. So here we go: a new art print that I’m proud of and that I hope you’ll enjoy.

“A Moment of Magic” is an eight color screenprint, printed by the always stellar crew at Lady Lazarus in Houston. For this art release, I tweaked a couple areas from the previous incarnation as gig poster (sky, shadows, a few other tweaks) and added a transparent flake gloss in a pattern in the border and on the metallic and “shiny” areas of the print for added pop. In the images below, you can see the border pattern as a visual element, but in reality, it’s truly a transparent layer and is only visible from an angle. See pictures below for more clarity. - N.C.
The prints will be available in three colorways: "Main", “Nostalgia” and “Dusk” which echo the original gig poster colorway releases. He’ll also release a very limited (usually 5) hand-embellished versions of each print in the original drop for an added purchase price for those wanting something extra special. As always, these are uniquely hand-embellished, no two exactly alike.

The prints go live in the online shop this coming Saturday, July 11 at a random time after Noon EDT.

PREDATOR By N.C. Winters Mondo Release

No comments:

Mondo are very excited to kick things off in 2018 with an amazing pair of PREDATOR posters by N.C. Winters! Last April they released N.C.'s incredible posters for ALIEN and we were totally blown away. They knew immediately that they wanted to do a PREDATOR companion eventually, and thankfully N.C. mightily stepped up to the challenge and delivered a gorgeous and faithfully detailed recreation of the hunter.

“I was excited to follow up my ALIEN poster with an intriguing property that would be a good complement and indeed, companion piece. The actual predator creature was even more of a technical challenge, and I’m happy with the final result." - N.C. Winters

You can pick up these posters at a random time Thursday at mondotees.com.

N.C. Winters Primus Grand Rapids Poster Release

No comments:

N.C. Winters just crushed his first ever gig poster, I'll let him tell you about it.
First of all, a huge shout out to the enigmatic Zoltron for bringing me on for my first gig poster, and for the band Primus no less. I’ve been itching to try my hand at an official concert gig poster and was excited to give my first opportunity everything I had. I went full crazy on detail and concept, and the band was totally on board, which was a delight. I’m extremely pleased with the result, and may have gone a little overboard with seven inks, but wanted to come out with a splash. Like everything else I do, it was a complete experiment and I’m stoked with the result.

The posters are for the May 20 2017 gig date at 20 Monroe Live in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The posters measure 18″ x 24” and each print is hand signed and numbered. Total ink counts: seven colors on three different paper stocks. There are three variants, including one on foil. The first variant is a deliciously poisonous evil mushroom version in cool teals and purples. The second pulls back to more subdued oranges and lavenders on a licorice stock which super enhances the glow around the candy beetle. I was skeptical to include a foil option as the third variant as I know this can be the go-to option for many posters, but I tried to use the medium in a way that would enhance this specific design. I dropped out one of the pale blues to have the iridescent foil shine through in many subtle details and I’m super happy with the result.
Prints will be available Tuesday, May 23 at 9AM PDT in his store at http://ncwinters.com/

Alien NC Winters Poster

No comments:

N.C. Winters is thrilled to announce his officially licensed “Alien” print now available through Mondo and 20th Century Fox. The guys at Mondo reached out with a dream project for his first officially licensed movie poster. In the words of Mondo:

“H.R. Giger’s iconic design for the Xenomorph is just about perfect. It’s instantly identifiable, timeless and terrifying. N.C. Winters has paid wonderful tribute to Giger’s brilliant design in his poster for ALIEN. N.C.’s rendering and careful attention to detail across the Xeno design is stunning. This poster will be on sale as an extended timed edition release, available starting now and running through May 19th when ALIEN: COVENANT is released in theaters.”

The poster came together unbelievably well, and is one of the top pieces of work N.C has ever created. He had a strong intent to run with Giger’s original artistic design and tried to stay as true it as possible, and Mondo and Fox were both happy to support this vision. The print is an open timed edition, with the purchase window closing right at the release of ALIEN:COVENANT.

“ALIEN” Officially Licensed Screenprint Poster
Print size: 24″ x 36″ timed edition print
Final edition size limited to number sold between April 19 and May 19, 2017
Six-colors on bright white paper.
Each print is hand signed & numbered. $50 each.

N.C. Winters Urgent Need Print Release

No comments:

N.C. Winters is releasing a new print this week to help a great cause.
Since the recent presidential election, I've struggled with finding the best way to express myself regarding the heightened sense of hostile rhetoric in our current political and social climate. I had originally planned a new print in response, based around some darker, angrier imagery. I was hoping to voice my frustration through art, something I don't always do, as I try to keep political views out of my works for the general public. This was the time however, to make my voice heard.

Very quickly though, I realized the best way I could contribute to the conversation, and the best way to keep my head free from constant anger and resentment was to focus on compassion and inclusion. So I scrapped some of the original designs and instead focused on a new message of hope and compassion. The result is "Urgent Need" which combines imagery of rebirth in the allegory of the Phoenix, combined with unique imagery with an emphasis on compassion for the beauty of ALL life, however different from one's own.
As part of this special release, I'm proud to be donating 20% of all profits of the sale directly to the ACLU. While I wish it could be a greater percentage, this is an experiment to see if this print and message will find resonance with buyers who are of like mind. If the sale does well, I plan on future prints with a similar theme where I can hopefully donate a much larger percentage to the ACLU and other important organizations. Together, hopefully we can all work together to make a difference through art.
Prints are 16" x 20" Limited edition of 300. Five-color hand-pulled screenprint on Madero Beach speckletone 100# cover stock. Each print is hand signed & numbered.on Madero Beach 100lb speckletone paper, expertly printed by Daniel Askar at Static Medium Printing. Each print is hand signed and numbered and will never be reprinted. Prints are $40 each.
The print will be available for purchase this coming Wednesday, February 15 at 9:37AM PST. Direct purchase link here.

As part of their Pow Wow print release 1xRUN has a new print named Duality from N.C. Winters.

"Two souls locked in embrace, entwined forever in the never-ending ocean. 'Duality' was created in May of 2016 for the KAABOO festival in Del Mar, California. Lush color, with a tweaked symmetrical layout that emphasizes both separate halves as well as a connection to each other." - N.C. Winters

N.C. Winters Tempest Print Release Details

No comments:

N.C. Winters has a new release from 1xRUN on Tuesday and it's titled Tempest. It will come in you choice of two sizes 22 x 30 or 13 x 18 inches. Along with the prints they will have 7 original paintings for sale.

"I have made a few paintings that incorporate a series of narratives that revolve around my relationship to my son as a father and this is the next major piece in that ongoing series. I imagine this series may last for several decades as I explore what it means to be a dad and watch my son grow and evolve and create his own world. Interestingly, the previous piece and origin of this series was with a previous 1xRUN release: “Overdrive.”

“Tempest” has several layers of meaning that correspond with various states of the mind and the aforementioned experience of being a father. To dispel the immediate question, no, it does not refer to a troublesome, tempestuous child, but more to the overwhelming complexity that comes from raising a new life and what that means for your own existence, not to mention the whirlwind of life that he must be experiencing concurrently. I leave the viewer to extrapolate other personal meanings from that jumping off point." - N.C. Winters
