Matt Leunig has a couple of killer posters dropping this week, including is Marq Spusta collab everyone has been wanting.
But first we must go to the desert. Chris Cornell has been hitting the road to promote his new solo album, Higher Truth and Matt got the call to do a poster for the Phoenix, AZ stop.
Matt remembered that “Dia De Los Muertos” falls right around the date of the show and would be perfect. He tried out a couple classic painted ladies and Day of the Dead skeletons before shifting gears a bit and focusing in on more of a guitar wielding bandito skeleton.
One of Matt's favorite shows to do every year is TRPS Festival of Rock Posters in San Francisco. The folks who put it on are the best and he has been doing it since he started doing poster back in 2006 or so.
Marq Spusta & Matt have been talking about doing a collaborative print for years and figured this was the perfect opportunity. Their handdrawn styles are somewhat similar, sometimes he goes a bit looser… sometimes Matt cleaner, but they figured the imagery would mesh well. For the process they sent some sketches back and forth making the 2 eyeball characters the initial focus.
Monolith Press did a great job printing them up and they gave 100 copies of the original gold to TRPS to sell at the show which they pretty much ran through. Marq & Matt kept a couple as well as some variants (Silver, Blue, Foil & Super awesome Sparkle Foil) which they sold at the show. Matt will have a limited amount (20 copies) of the Original “Gold” print for sale.
Both posters will be on sale Friday November 6 at 11am PST at ScrapedKnee.com
