Chet Zar Siamese Witches Print Release Today

No comments:

Now this is how you do Halloween right. 1xRUN for the first time ever has a little treat from Chet Zar being released today.

"I’ve always been into this kind of fantasy world. The idea of other realms and dimensions. These kind of dream states and other unusual realms of existence. I guess that comes from watching horror movies and reading comic books when I was a kid. For me it's all about getting back to this place like when I was a kid. It’s sort of like you’re not fucked up yet when you’re a kid. It’s like you’re still sort of pure and it’s a pretense to self consciousness. You just do it and are in the moment which is how it should be as adults, but you just kind of grow up and lose that innocence. So painting is a way for me to get back into that state of mind. I spent a lot of time as a kid just dreaming up other worlds and thinking about them. Kind of escaping into fantasy worlds which is basically what I do now with the art." - Chet Zar

Siamese Witches is a 16 x 20 Inches Archival Pigment Print on 310gsm Bright White Fine Art Paper with a signed and numbered edition of 100

No comments:
Saturday night saw the opening of the second Lyric Show curated by artist Glenn Barr and the Inside the Rock Poster Street Team was there to bring you the pictures.  On behalf of Glenn Barr and the 30+ participating artists, 323East would like to cordially invite you to join them for Lyric 2012 this Saturday April 21st from 6-11pm!

On the heels of the last March’s inaugural Lyric exhibition at 323East Gallery (see pictures from the show HERE), Glenn Barr is back to curate the second incarnation of his pervasive musically themed group exhibition Lyric 2012. With an expanded roster of local and international artists ranging from lowbrow, pop surrealism, graffiti and illustration, this show is set to be the largest group exhibition to date at the Metro Detroit gallery named Best of Place to Buy Art (for the 3rd Year in A Row!) by Real Detroit Weekly.

323East and Glenn Barr Studios Presents: Lyric 2012 Curated by Glenn Barr
Artists Reception from 6-11pm on Saturday April 21st 2012 @ 323East in Royal Oak, MI. Exhibition on View from April 21st - May 16th 2012 - This event is free and open to the public.

For this exhibition Glenn had one simple request for each artist: Each piece of art must be 12 x 12 inches, paying homage to the timeless beauty that can fit on the cover of a vinyl record. Each artist has been given free reign to draw inspiration from their favorite artist, album, song or lyric and put their personal interpretation to canvas.

Artists have always been known to use lyrics as inspiration and with this have created some of the greatest works in the world. LYRIC Gallery Show– Curated by Glenn Barr Covered with Pictures

No comments:

It’s got a good beat and you can paint to it.

Forgive the pun, paraphrase, or whatever else you deign to call that opening sentence. I'm not making light of Lyric, the show at 323East that will be curated by Glenn Barr and will feature two-dozen or so works by an impressive list of artists. We’re just happy to see that, in an art world filled with far too many ambiguously-themed exhibits, there are still group shows that don’t require a refresher course in either Barthes or Baudrillard.

The common denominator at the very heart of Lyric is (obviously) music. What is heard – what comes from or is fashioned by the musical scale of notes – is often the immediate prelude to what is felt on the emotional roster of our feelings. Everyone has a favorite song or (conversely) a song they wish they could banish from thought because the latter carries a baggage of bittersweet memories. Likewise a line from a particular song may prompt a multitude of images in the mind of the listener. And if the listener is prone to pick up a pen or a brush on occasion …

And that is the starting point for every piece in this exhibit. Barr asked each participant to “transcribe” a musical motif and its words onto canvas. The result is an impressive score and one without a single discordant note.

Music and its lyrics can always stimulate our emotions and it can have us contemplating a visionary narrative. Lyrics have been known to be the fodder of some of the greatest works in the world. This exhibition will illustrate the artists personal transcription from a songs lyric to canvas.

Inquire for artwork availability at 248.246.9544 or april@323east.com.

Visit 323East.com to see the rest of the pieces and what's left for sale.

I think my favorite is the one by Bryan Cunningham with the Hoo Doo U Luv with the snake and crazy textures on it.
