Alice Cooper Constrictor 35th Anniversary by Vance Kelly

No comments:

Iconic by Collectionzz limited edtion screenprint commemorating the 35th anniversary of Alice Cooper's classic album Constrictor is now available!

Alice Cooper's classic album Constrictor, released on September 22, 1986, is celebrating its 35th anniversary! Constrictor was a fresh start for Cooper after a three year hiatus from the music industry, and was arguably the best work he put forth in years. Cooper succeeded in re-establishing himself by bringing back the energy that had made Killer and Welcome to My Nightmare so popular, and in the process regained his crown as the king of Shock Rock!

The horror series Friday the 13th teamed up with Cooper during this time to produce the theme song for its latest film. The song “He's Back (The Man Behind the Mask)” was written for Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives and went on to become a #1 hit in Sweden. The song provides a perfect blend of Alice eeriness and toe-tapping radio appeal.

And who can forget that classic cover art! Artist Vance Kelly took inspiration from the album art depicting the boa constrictor having finished off the job with a skeleton of Alice Cooper all that remains of Ol Black Eyes!

Black Crowes Atlanta Poster By Vance Kelly Release

No comments:

In 1990 The Black Crowes gave the rock genre a much-needed swift kick in the ass with their debut album Shake Your Money Maker. That album, fueled by singles "Jealous Again," "Twice As Hard," "She Talks To Angels," and a rollicking cover of fellow Georgian Otis Redding's "Hard To Handle," immediately took the music world by storm, selling over 5 million records and topping Rolling Stone's "Best New American Band Readers Poll" in late 1990.

To commemorate the 30th anniversary of their debut album, the band recently released a multi-format reissue of Shake Your Money Maker, which included a previously unreleased iconic live set from December 20, 1990 at The Center Stage in Atlanta, GA. The Robinson brothers sat down with the AJC to discuss what made that show at Atlanta’s Center Stage so special:
CR: We did two or three nights there and one of them was my 24th birthday. The year before we were probably playing The Cotton Club or The Point in Little Five Points to 30 people. To have that first year of success with the record and us (becoming) The Black Crowes – it was super special to see all of our friends and family there. People magazine was there to interview our parents! We were so excited to have Chuck Leavell (who played on the album) play on those shows. The footage from the “She Talks to Angels” video was from those shows.

RR: I was 19 when we made (“Shake Your Moneymaker”) and realistically a year out of high school and living with my parents. So to get on a bus and go out for a year and come back to two or three sold-out shows at this venue where we had watched so many people play…I mean, I saw the Replacements there, I saw Iggy Pop with Jane’s Addiction opening, The Church - just so many cool bands had played there. For us to come back and play it was pretty cool. I was shocked at how good the show sounded. There was a lot of energy, a lot of good playing, a lot of excitement.
Vance Kelly created the official poster for us commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Homecoming Concerts:
When The Black Crowes first came on the scene back in 1990, I was blown away. I loved their 70's Rock and Blues vibe and still a fan to this day. I used their original two crows from that era for inspiration and took it into a more ethereal realm. - Vance Kelly

The Witch Posters by Kelly, Tobin and Moscati Release By Hero Complex Gallery

1 comment:

In conjunction with Lionsgate Hero Complex Gallery are pleased to present three new official The Witch posters by artists Vance Kelly, Matt Ryan Tobin and David Moscati.

If you haven't seen this gem yet, The Witch is now available on Blu-ray™ and DVD so grab yourself a copy.
"I was thrilled to take on this project as I was an immediate fan of the film. Robert Eggers did a wonderful job tapping into the dark areas of our history and mythologies.

I always enjoy creating artwork that depicts the struggle between light and dark. After all, isn’t that the definitive process of creating art, using light and dark to create form? It was exciting to create an image that feels dark and atmospheric while using an old pen and ink style that emulates engraving and block cut techniques from the era when the film takes place.

It is my hope that the artwork serves well as a companion piece to this amazing film."- Vance Kelly
"I saw The Witch on opening weekend and absolutely fell in love. It felt like a love letter to true horror fans and film fans alike. It's my kind of film in every way. Aesthetically and sonically this film somehow captures emotion, deprivation, helplessness and compassion, as well as pure, unadulterated terror. It makes you feel something real, which can be argued isn't occurring in most modern horror films today.

With this poster I wanted to use the film's palette and imagery to create something that complimented the film rather than imposing my own interpretation. I went with "less is more" here. Blackness. Ominousness. Foreboding evil. A witch embracing her master, pure darkness in the shape of a goat - whispering in his ear - I chose to go landscape with this as it tends to create more atmosphere - a very important and beautiful attribute The Witch also has. It's not just a brilliant horror movie...it's a brilliant film."- Matt Ryan Tobin
