Jay Shaw Why Don't You Play in Hell? & R100 Poster Release From Mondo

No comments:

On Tuesday Mondo will be releasing posters by Jay Shaw for two of Drafthouse Films' upcoming titles WHY DON'T YOU PLAY IN HELL? & R100. Find out more about these outrageous films below:

WHY DON'T YOU PLAY IN HELL?
"Master filmmaker Sion Sono (Love Exposure; Cold Fish) describes his frenzied, gleeful new masterpiece as “an action film about the love of 35mm.” Based on a screenplay he wrote nearly fifteen years ago, Why Don't You Play In Hell? is among Sono’s very best work, as his trademark excess and outrageousness is infused with an affection for the previous century of Japanese cinema. This is Sion Sono with his talent and unique vision completely unleashed." More info here.
Why Don't You Play in Hell? Is a 12"x36" screen print. Hand numbered. Edition of 75.

R100
"In this audaciously kinky, meta-comedic thriller, a lonely father with a secret taste for S&M (Nao Ohmori, best known for his titular turn in Takashi Miike's Ichi the Killer) hires a boutique dominatrix agency that specializes in guerilla acts of public degradation." More info here.
R100 is 18"x24" screen print. Hand numbered. Edition of 75.

Jay Shaw Foxcatcher Movie Poster Mondo Release Details

No comments:
On Wednesday Mondo will be releasing Foxcatcher by Jay Shaw. Mondo is big fans of the film (directed by Bennett Miller), which proves worthy of its three Golden Globe nominations with great performances by Steve Carell, Channing Tatum & Mark Ruffalo. You really should watch the trailers, Steve Carell's performance is amazing and so different from what everyone is used too.

Here's what Jay had to say about his poster:

"The idea is that the fox Ouroboros is meant to symbolize self-reflexivity and the idea of something recreating itself. This, to me, is the central theme of the film. Mark is trying to recreate himself as an entity outside of his brother's shadow, Dave is trying to recreate himself as a father and Jon is trying to recreate himself as a man independent of his mother's grasp."

The poster is 24"x36" screen print. Hand numbered. Edition of 175. The yellow variant has an edition of 75

No comments:

Mondo will have new poster  by Vance Kelly for the excellent 70's vampire film DAUGHTERS OF DARKNESS! The poster is 24"x36" screen print. Hand numbered. Edition of 150. They reached out to Vance for a brief insight into his design and here's what he had to say:
"When Rob and Mitch approached me with this project, I realized I had not seen Daughters of Darkness since the 70's, so I took the opportunity to watch it again, this time paying close attention to the cinematography and the color palette of the film. I was easily inspired by the characters and striking imagery..."

Jay Shaw Borgman & Sorcerer Posters Mondo Release Details

No comments:

Mondo is releasing a couple of new posters on Friday by Jay Shaw for the movies Borgman & Sorcerer.

Borgman 18"x24" screen print. Hand numbered edition of 100. I asked Jay about the poster :
In Borgman the main character infiltrates a family and attempts to unravel their lives. It’s a bit of a dark fairy tale. I wanted to portray Borgman as a trojan horse.
Sorcerer 18"x24" screen print. Hand numbered. Signed by William Friedkin. Edition of 190. Here is what Jay had to say about the poster:
Sorcerer is a film about four hapless men delivering unstable dynamite to a burning oil well in South America. They use re-purposed old military trucks to traverse a ruthless terrain. The death smoke looming above the truck represents the futility of the mission. It’s probably the most tense film I’ve ever seen.

Both posters will be on sale at random time Friday at Mondotees.com

Jay Shaw Blue Sunshine Mondo Movie Poster Release

No comments:

Mondo is releasing another poster by Jay Shaw this week and it's one of his favorite kind of movies a 70's Cult Classic. The movie is Blue Sunshine, which is about a group of college kids that had taken a new form of LSD called "Blue Sunshine," which causes its users to lose their hair and become homicidal maniacs many years after their trip is over. Jerry Zipkin manages to defeat the crazed bodyguard of a local politician, and save the shopping mall discothèque by carefully remembering the advice of the gun shop employee. Some where in the back of my head I can hear Mr Mackey.

The poster is an 18"x24" screen print. Hand numbered. Edition of 130

On sale today at random time over at Mondotees.com

Also the folks over at The Dotted Line Reporter have a good little interview with Jessica Olsen of Mondo discussing the licensing process, collaborating with film studios, and how she feels about galleries that produce unlicensed art prints. Check it out HERE

Jay Shaw Cheap Thrills & A Field in England Mondo Poster Release

No comments:

Jay Shaw has done a couple of new posters for Mondo that will be released this week.

I asked him about the design of them :

Both posters are for Drafthouse Films releases. Cheap Thrills is a black comedy about how far two men are willing to debase themselves for money. Mutilation, vandalism, infidelity. Good times. Fairly straight forward poster for that one.

A Field In England is Ben Wheatley's latest film about a group of men traveling across a field in search of mystical treasure during the English civil war of the 1700s. That poster plays off the psychedelic nature of the film.

Cheap Thrills is 18"x24" screen print. Hand numbered. Edition of 100

A Field In England is 18"x24" screen print. Hand numbered. Edition of 165

Both go on sale Thursday February 20 at a random time over at Mondotees.com
