Erica Williams Rapunzel Art Print Release

No comments:

Erica Williams has released a new print titled Rapunzel. She really wanted to release her before the end of Women’s History Month as the print is about “taking it back” as a woman and embracing your identity and worth.

$5 of every Rapunzel print sold will be donated to Equality Now, an international women’s charity that works to help educate, empower, and rescue women around the world.
This particular print is very special to me. I constantly encounter sexism and misogyny, both personally and professionally. Every female artist probably has at least one story about the fans that are too creepy or who make inappropriate comments. Some of us, myself included, refrain from posting photos of ourselves online to try and avoid sexist comments and objectification. I commonly encounter clients who are wildly inappropriate, with questions like “are you barren” and comments that are borderline harassment. Even at events it is assumed that my husband is “the artist” because why would a woman be the artist? There is not enough time to detail how often, and how offensive, this can be. “Rapunzel” is a reply to these behaviors, and is my way of highlighting the need for women to stand up, take control, and speak out and for men to support all the ladies as well. Men, step the fuck up. And ladies, kick ass and don’t apologize. - Erica

Erica Williams Peace Be With You And Luminous Prints Release

No comments:

Having gotten settled back in her studio after Flatstock Erica Williams is ready to share a couple of new prints with the internet.

First is "Peace Be With You". This piece was inspired by the Islamic faith, and is to show my support and adoration for Muslims, especially those refugees affected by the recent travel bans. Peace Be Upon You is my first print for a cause.

$5 of every sale will be donated to the ALCU.

In Islam bats are considered to be a perfect create, the soul turns into an owl after you die, and cats (while not included in the art) are the most beloved by Muhammed. While there is no "official" flower, roses are important and are commonly used in Muslim weddings and funerals. Also included is oleander, which grows throughout the region affected by the travel bans. The symbols on the Misbaha are that is Islam, and an African symbol that means "unity through diversity." Lastly, the seven stars (one is hidden by the bat, which kinda worked out after the ban was revised) stand for the seven countries affected by the ban.

Luminous was released shortly before Flatstock, but Erica didn't get the chance to put them online prior to heading to Austin.

Erica Williams Original Art And Posters Sale

No comments:

Erica Williams has some new posters and original drawings for sale and they are 30% off to help the costs of taking one of her cats to the vet to have a tumor removed.

Erica with the details
As many of you know I am a cat mom, and I love my little fur babies more than anything. When they are sick it breaks my heart. Many of you also know that for the past week I have been running a sale in my shop to fund vetrinary bills for one of my little ones, Maxwell. He had surgery yesterday to remove a tumor that was growing through his ear drum causing infections and pain.

He is back home and doing ok, although really not a fan of the cone, and I want to thank everyone for their support and warm wishes for his recovery.

However my vet pretty substantially under quoted me on the amount the procedure would cost, so I am posting some originals up for sale for $200 each as well as extending the currently running 30% off sale until Saturday.
30% OFF YOUR ORDER WITH CODE "MAXWELL" AT CHECKOUT Good through Saturday the 27th.

Erica Williams Hana Kiba Print & More Releases

No comments:

"Hana Kiba", with roughly means "Flower Fang" is a variant of the David Gray and Amos Lee poster Erica Williams did a few months ago. She wanted to experiment with some colors she doesn't normally work with and she is really pleased with how it turned out.

The variant is printed on Curious Metallics Ice Gold, a soft tinted metallic paper with a gentle sprinkling of fine gold glitter. It adds a new level of warmth to "Hana Kiba" by playing off the red tints and orange.

Curious metallic paper is and soft luxurious to the touch paper with a luminescent sheen and glittery alloy affect that just makes you happy to look at. Sparkly! It's also made in facilities that support the environment by being FSC and Green-E certified. Thoughtfully made and gorgeous? Win-Win!

Letterpress is amazing. Erica absolutely loves it and will tell anyone who asks (and those who don't) how it is her favorite kind of printing. She brought these with her to MondoCon and the remaining copies are on sale now.

Erica's final act as the 2014 Surly Brewing Artist of the Year was to create a label for their anniversary beer. Nein was born, a German ale. The label is based off the number 9, ideas of luck, and traditional German heraldry. Also Todd, the brewmaster, is as big a cat person as Erica, so she went with lions and gave them nine eyes.

Livsnjutare
Inspired by the beauty of the seasons and the joy of life this art print is aptly named with the Swedish word "livsnjutare" which means "one who loves life fully and lives to the extreme, literally: enjoyer of life." The guys at Triple Stamp Press were kind enough to take on this beast of a print and they did an amazing job! At 11 colors and a lot of tricky bits to it this came out amazing, better than I could have ever thought.
