 Jonathan LeVine Gallery is pleased to present The Sotofish Society, a series of new works by California based artist Jeff Soto in what will be his fifth solo exhibition at the gallery.

With a history of showing at the gallery for over a decade Soto returns with paintings and drawings that reinterpret elements of his life’s work. Viewing this series as a rebirth, he continues to transplant viewers to an alternate universe while going back to his roots and evolving iconic characters, such as yetis, reapers, robots and the Sotofish. He describes, “I always feel like an artist’s entire body of work should be fair game to use. My cast of characters and the worlds I create are The Sotofish Society.”

Soto depicts friendly creatures and personifications of earth’s forces that thrive in a dystopian environment plagued by the complexities of modern living. These otherworldly creatures roam the surreal landscape and are surrounded by overgrown greenery, deteriorating technology and overall societal decay. However, Soto’s use of vibrant colors and organic shapes evoke a sense of hope and effort to revitalize, communicating themes of family, nature, life, and death.

For this exhibition the artist focused on creating work based on instinct and emotion, resulting in dynamic paintings with many layers, silhouettes and design elements. Along with acrylic compositions on wood and paper, The Sotofish Society will include a selection of watercolors, which are rarely exhibited, as well as limited edition relief prints. By merging a refined selection of graffiti and mixed media techniques, Soto continues to bridge the gap between street art and pop surrealism.

James Eads Dave Matthews Band Gorge Poster Release

James Eads did one of the  Dave Matthews Band posters this weekend for the shows at the Gorge. If you were unable to get a poster at the show he will have an AP edition of 120 available this week. James is going to be releasing the poster in two separate drops in an effort to increase chances at a print.

The first part of the edition will be available Wednesday September 7th at 6PM PDT. At this time James will also be dropping his Slightly Stoopid Posters and the Deep Dish Delivery Art Print. These are both 12x36 prints, hand signed and numbered in editions of 50.

The second part of the DMB Gorge edition will drop on Thursday, September 8th at 11AM PST.

Kyler Sharp Claypool Lennon Delirium New Haven Poster

This is Kyler Sharp's new screen printed poster for The Claypool Lennon Delirium.
It's for the new psychedelic collaboration between Les Claypool and Sean Lennon. Their new album is called 'Monolith Of Phobos'.

The poster is from the August 27th show in New Haven CT and next show in Portland ME.

The print measures 18x24 inches and is screen printed on cougar white gallery stock. It's a 5 color print. This print is from an edition of only 140 pieces and only a limited number will be available for sale from his site.

Brian Ewing blink 182 Mansfield Poster

Brian Ewing has a new poster for blink 182 from show in Mansfield, MA.

Here Brian tells you about it:

So stoked to FINALLY show this off!!! I was commissioned by Blink-182 to be a part of the current tour. I had been trying for a while now to do a poster for this band so I’m doing the happy dance over here.

I’m also happy because I’m starting to feel the need to move forward with a style that I have been exploring for the past couple of years. So it’s nice to not be drawing a skull for once and to show people I can actually draw things - like people with no skin!!!

I enjoyed doing this. I hope you enjoy looking at it. Hopefully I’ll get hired to do more. nudgenudgewinkwink

If you look closely at the collage you’ll see a million references to the band. And myself of course.

The poster is 18 x 24 inch screenprint with an artist edition of 100 that are signed & numbered.

On a side note the copyright, skull & crossbones and his name dont appear on the actual poster, he did it to try and stop the bootleggers.

Blink 182 Bangor Poster By Mark 5

Blink 182 are in Bangor, Maine tonight and some of you might know it's the home town of Stephen King. With that in mind Mark 5 decided to create a Steven King homage with his poster for the show. Stephen King's house is also mile from the venue. Posters at the show are numbered edition of 182.
