DRIVE by Rory Kurtz And THE AVIATOR by Jonathan Burton Posters Release From Mondo

No comments:

Two of Mondo's most anticipated films of the year are expanding wide in theaters this week, Ryan Gosling in LA LA LAND and Martin Scorsese’s SILENCE. In celebration they're releasing a pair of posters for some of their favorite films also featuring these tremendous talents.

DRIVE remains one of Mondo's favorite movies of the last few years. Ryan Gosling instantly cemented his portrayal of the “Driver” as a modern cinematic icon, and director Nicolas Winding Refn expertly used an equally iconic L.A. setting as more than just a backdrop as the city took on a character in itself amongst the violence and mystery at play. Rory Kurtz blew everyone away with his output in 2016 and when he told Mondo he loved the film, they knew immediately this was a perfect fusion of artist and property. He did not disappoint.

Drive by Rory Kurtz. 24"x36" screen print. Hand numbered. Edition of 375.

THE AVIATOR is Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio's depiction of the compulsive nature of Howard Hughes, a man whose life spanned many decades and obsessions. When deciding on an artist for the project Mondo knew they needed someone who could capture the grand history of Mr. Hughes. Jonathan Burton's art perfectly depicts both the frantic energy and old Hollywood charm of the HELL'S ANGELS sequence, portraying Hughes as both man-of-the-sky and cinematic rebel.

The regular and variant versions each represent specific color palettes in the film. Scorsese and his team created two unique palettes (Technicolor inspired two color and vibrant three-strip) to approximate the technology of the film industry in the movie's time periods.

The Aviator by Jonathan Burton. 24"x36" screen print. Hand numbered. Edition of 250.

The Aviator (Variant) by Jonathan Burton. 24"x36" screen print. Hand numbered. Edition of 125.

All of them will be on sale Thursday at Mondotees.com at a random time.

Shepard Fairey The Colossus of Destiny A Melvins Tale Movie Poster Release

No comments:

The Melvins have one of the largest collections of posters of any band and now you can add Shepard Fairey to the list of artists who have documented their career.

The Melvins are one of my all-time favorite bands. In 1990, I discovered their albums Ozma and Bullhead and became obsessed. The Melvins channelled Black Flag and Black Sabbath but brought their own unique style that utilized power and negative space, thus creating this amazing tension. I designed this poster for the Melvins documentary “The Colossus of Destiny: A Melvins Tale,” which had select screenings last year and more to come in 2017. The film follows the band’s history, with rare behind-the-scenes footage from their early days in Washington to their multiple modern incarnations with an eye on the enduring influence they’ve had throughout their 30-year plus history. The documentary features interviews with Mike Patton, Chris Cornell, Jello Biafra, Gene Simmons, Krist Novoselic, Mark Arm, J. Mascis, Josh Homme, David Yow and many more. I’m thrilled to open this new year with this poster and hope that true fans get their hands on one of these! Happy New Year!

“I always thought it was strange that people didn’t know more about The Melvins and I felt their story needed to be told. The band members told me that a few people had talked the talk but had never followed up on their threats to make a film about them, so a little over two years ago things really fell into place and now the end product is finished for all to see, ” explained Director and Producer Bob Hannam, who worked in tandem with Ryan Sutherby to bring the film to fruition. “It has been a long labor of love for the both of us and we are excited for people to see the film and understand the workings of a truly great band.” -Shepard Fairey
January screenings of the film are confirmed for New York, Phoenix and Dallas with more to be added over the next couple of months. Check www.melvinsmovie.com for more info. The film is planned to be released on dvd/blu-ray/digital in April 2017.

MELVINS COLOSSUS PRINT on sale January 5 at 10AM PST on ObeyGiant.com in Store under Prints. 18 x 24 inches. Screenprint. Signed by Shepard Fairey. Edition of 300. $65.

Cult Classic Prints Presents: Drive "A Real Hero" Poster by Nikita Kaun

No comments:

A classic classy regular with darker tones representing the dark underbelly of the L.A. streets at night with nods to the original Thief (Michael Mann) one sheet that inspired it, both movies share a lot of the same DNA so Nikita and Cult Classic felt this would be a cool homage while still being it's own animal.

James Eads Gorgoneion Amulet Print Release

No comments:

Well hello 2017, yes were back and to kick things off is a new one by James Eads who is not hesitating to get his art on early this year.

James is opening the year with a good luck charm. In ancient Greece it was thought that Gorgoneion Amulets were imbued with Apotropiac Magic to ward off evil. These amulets depicted a Gorgon, sometimes more commonly known as Medusa, and represent a dynamic life energy associated with the mother goddess.

"The Gorgoneion Amulet" is a 12" x 12" four color screenprint with a fifth glow in the dark layer on Epic Black paper. Prints are hand signed and numbered in a limited edition of 66 and will be available for $40 on Wednesday, January 4th at 4PM PST at http://www.jamesreadsmerch.com
