On Paper
On Wood
From Todd Slater
On Friday, April 3, at 2pm CST my Man in Black art print will go on sale. You can see the image here. It's an edition of 100, signed and numbered and will be $50. Alot of people don't know how religious Johnny was, and I thought the crosses made for a very interesting paradox in the print. The print also contains a small tribute to June as well - see if you can spot it. In addition, there is a signed and numbered edition of 30 printed on wood. These look especially amazing and will obviously have to be shipped flat. The price is $150 for the wood edition.
On Thursday, April 2, at 2pm CST three new posters will go on sale for Modest Mouse, Morrissey and The Black Keys. These new posters are editions of 200, signed and numbered, priced at $30 a print.
Here's a few notes about the new prints:
The Morrissey print is an homage to an Ambassadeurs poster by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (view the original here). I have to once again thank my good friend Rob Jones who suggested referencing the artist.
Modest Mouse is a top 10 favorite band of mine and this print is inspired by their song, Steam Engenius. I wanted the illustration style to be modeled from some of Picasso's animal drawings. There's a really nice clear varnish layer of a gear pattern in this that doesn't show up too well in the web image.
I've been playing with the idea of using a domino (as a key element) in a Black Keys poster...I like the duality and simplicity of it in relation to the band. Sometimes a gut feeling is enough to build a poster on. There's also a clear varnish layer in this print that features a photo collage of a famous Burlesque dancer from the 40s and 50s.
