Jack White Cooperstown Prints By Alan Hynes

The Baseball Hall of Fame is located in Cooperstown, NY so Alan Hynes designed his posters for the Jack White concert at Brewery Ommegang in Cooperstown last week like pennants.

Posters are cut to triangle pennant shape and include a numbered "rain check" style ticket.
The measure 13" x 34" (approx) and screenprinted.
Edition of 240 each, signed and numbered.

Karyn Kusama’s The Invitation is a razor sharp psychological thriller set during a swanky Los Angeles dinner party. Things at this party are either perfectly normal or hyper crazy depending on the audience’s perspective and proclivity towards paranoia. This is a film made by very smart people so Mondo naturally turned to the very smart Alan Hynes to come up with a very smart poster.

Alan Hynes Puscifer Atlanta Poster On Sale

As a huge fan of Tool I love what Maynard Keenan created with Puscifer. The shows are fun and different and they play their asses off. But they never had and good posters for the shows, well that has changed. When Zoltron was offered the task of curating a Poster Series for The Money Shot Tour, he quickly agreed.

Puscifer is an evolving collective of musical misfits. They know how to compose rad songs, but they don’t take themselves too seriously, which is sorely missing in this godforsaken industry. They are having fun, being creative, making art and masterfully slinging everything from Vinyl and Digital Downloads to David Cross Dvds, Dog Sweaters, Mustache Grooming Supplies, Knee High Socks and Queen Bee Thongs.

For the Poster Series, the band requested a handful of artists & Zoltron called on a bunch of heavy-hitters who know their way around screen printing, several of whom told him to fuck off. But for those who were into it, they all set out with a singular vision in mind. To make some sweet posters... A new poster, designed by a different artist,
hand-printed by a separate masterclass screen printer, signed, numbered, and shipped to a new venue, for each and every show on the tour.

As always, with 25+ artists each offering their own unique take on a single concept, they'll be ensured a creatively varied collection of art, and with the vibe of the new album and tour heavily laced with Luchadors (Lucha Libre/Mexican Wrestlers).

For each show, not including festival dates, there will be a very limited number between 100-125 of pre-tubed, silkscreen posters, available at the merch booth each night.

Alan Hynes Jack White Frankfurt Germany Poster Release

Jack White is over in Europe right now and Alan Hynes did the poster for the show in Frankfurt Germany.

The poster is an 18″ x 24″ screenprint in a limited run of 195, signed and numbered by Alan Hynes.

" I’m not going to say too much about this poster as I think the image speaks for Itself but I did snap the photo and can honestly say there were no photoshop shenanigans of any sort involved…

Jack’s “3” obsession continues with the addition of barbed wire as Roman numeral but if you’re a sucker for conceptual design then I’ll happily tell you it’s also a graphic representation of the physical and metaphysical boundaries between life and death…deep stuff right?"

Jack White Alan Hynes Dublin & European Posters On Sale

Jack White is wrapping up his European tour and Alan Hynes has released two of his excellent posters from Dublin and the Euro tour poster.

Here is what Alan said about the design:

The Royal Hospital Kilmainham (now the museum of modern art) is one of the finest 17th-century buildings in Ireland. It was a home to retired soldiers for over 250 years, so a lot of dying went on here I would think, it’s prime banshee territory.

The banshee comb reference comes from a centuries-old Irish story that, if you ever see a silver comb lying on the ground in Ireland you must never pick it up, or the banshees having placed it there to lure unsuspecting humans, will spirit such gullible souls away. I can easily imagine walking acrosss the poorly lit courtyard in Kilmainham late one night and spotting this on the ground in front of me.

The JACK WHITE lettering is based on the Gill Sans typeface, and I must admit experiencing just a small amount of glee in “Irishing Up” something so quintessentially British.

It can often be difficult to incorporate all the extra information necessary to a tour poster in an interesting or imaginative way. For Jack’s 2014 European Tour poster I’ve tried to do it by disguising the dates and venue information as business cards alongside an icon of americana, the 50′s style pay phone. The mismatched wallpaper as background sets the location whilst the handset held by a single wire sets up the storyline.

Primus Alan Hynes Boise Poster Release Details

Everyone's favorite weirdo’s Primus are back on the road again for a set of Spring dates. Alan Hynes is just one of the talented artists doing posters for this tour. He did the poster for last Saturday nights show in Boise Idaho. 

Amongst the many types of paper rubbish I find myself hoarding with obsessive fascination are fruit labels and price tags, pretty much any small sticker i am able to reasonably remove from something. They get stuck to a sheet of paper hanging on the fridge and as the page fills up, I always see them as some ridiculous ‘banana republic’ homemade version of the military badges on a generals uniform. I’ve wanted to make this image for a while and when I was given the opportunity to make another poster for Primus, I couldn’t have thought of a more suitable name to stick on this fella’s name tag. Alan's poster for the May 12th date at Revolution Center in Garden City is a six colour screenprint at 18″ x 25″ and is an edition of 200 signed and numbered. Handprinted at Bloom Press in Oakland CA.

Remaining copies will be available for sale Thursday May 16th at 9 AM PDT in his shop. There is a variant of 30 with hand applied sticker as well that will be for sale at this time.

Primus 2013 Spring Tour Poster Series Artist Line Up

Whoops he did it again... Zoltron has done it again...Everyone's favorite musical Trio, (No, not Peter, Paul and Mary) Primus is hitting the road again this Spring.

And guess what..? Zoltron has put together another insane Poster Series…. This tour will conclude with their 106th poster since he started the series a few years ago, which is pretty sweet considering they originally set out to make a series of limited edition beer cozies instead.

This time around, Zoltron called on a number of heavyweight poster artists to be involved and they all responded with such enthusiastic replies as, "yeah, i guess..." "umm, ok..." and "who's Primus..?"

But nonetheless, once again they have a list of All Star Artists, each of whom will visually represent a single Primus performance with a hand printed, silkscreen poster, flowing from the depths of their creative (and sometimes twisted) imaginations.

Each performance, excluding the festivals, will have roughly 100 posters available for purchase from the merch booth - and like every show in the past, he expect the posters to sell out quickly. As usual, Dave the merch guy will supply tubes to protect your newly acquired flat stock treasures.

The individual posters will be unveiled the night of each show, at the gig, on the Primus facebook page and at Zoltron.com.  as well as on the blog.

New Mondo Poster Series with Martin Scorsese's The Film Foundation

 Stick around long enough, and decay is inevitable. It's true for humans and for film stock: Half of all films made before 1950 are now lost forever. Preservation and restoration are the clarion calls of Martin Scorsese's nonprofit The Film Foundation; their cinematic saves are the focus of a new film series with Mondo and Alamo Drafthouse.

Kicking off this Monday with Hitchcock's Shadow of a Doubt, the eight-film series will pair restored 35mm prints with original poster art from Mondo. Sneak-peeped here are the art contributions of Jeff Kleinsmith's The Unholy Three, Delicious Design League's Film, and Elvisdead's The Old Dark House; other artists featured in the series include Alan Hynes, Laurent Durieux, Jay Shaw, and the Phantom City Creative. The films will also get the Mondo treatment with an original, stunning work of art available for sale at each of the screenings with remaining prints sold online at http://www.mondotees.com. The series runs Monday nights at the Alamo Ritz. The lineup includes:

Joseph Cotten plays the suavest serial killer around in the thriller Hitchcock once pegged as his favorite from his filmography.Alan Hynes poster design is for Alfred Hitchcocks’ Shadow of A Doubt, regarded by many as the seminal Hitchcock film and Alfreds’ personal favorite.  ”The movie follows a murderer on the lam (Joseph Cotten) visiting his relatives in Santa Rosa, Calif. and forming a strange bond with his rebellious niece (Teresa Wright). Charles Laughton moved behind the camera, his only whack at it, for this Southern gothic spine chiller. It's a good bookend to Shadow of a Doubt, though Cotten's Uncle Charlie's got nothing on Robert Mitchum's murderous con man with hate in his heart and hard-lettered in ink across his knuckles.

Jack White Tulsa Solo Show poster by Alan Hynes on sale now

Screenprinted poster for the March 15th date of Jack White's first ever solo tour. The open handcuffs are an obvious reference to the mans obsession with the number 3 and a visual metaphor for breaking free and going it alone.

Primus tour poster artist lineup announcement

The heavies at Primus management asked Zoltron to curate a poster series for the band's first major outing in more than 11 years. The project would entail a numbered run of unique, hand made silkscreen posters, designed by a new artist and printed by a custom silkscreen house for each and every venue on the tour. 20 artists for 21 shows in 30 days...

Zoltron agreed, but naturally he decided to heavily procrastinate until the last possible moment, before drinking 3 red bulls and reaching out to a group of friends, all highly creative and partially insane like himself. He asked them, one by one, if they were interested in doing a Primus poster and it was surprisingly unanimous, other than one anonymous party who told him to "Go eat a bag of dicks.."

Next step was lining up 9 different silkscreen print houses, all spread out from Oakland to Minnesota, and one 19th century hand press, to handle crafting their art into a poster series.
