RatDog began as a side project for Grateful Dead rhythm guitarist Bob Weir and bassist Rob Wasserman. After the Grateful Dead disbanded in December 1995, following the death of Jerry Garcia on August 9, 1995, RatDog became Bob Weir's primary band.
They have been out on the road again this year and David Welker did a poster for their recent show on February 21 at the NYBC Theatre in Westbury, NY. Davie will be releasing his AP copies of this 6 color screen print for RatDog tomorrow, March 4th at 3pm EST. The poster is a 20 x 16 screenprint.
David on the design:
I used to stare at old vinyl album covers for hours as a kid, pondering all the connections between the art and the music. So when Bob Weir & Ratdog hit the road this winter I took the opportunity to revisit the beloved Mars Hotel for their Westbury tour stop. I threw it back out with an extra dose of Zap Comix. It's an homage to the Alton Kelly, Stanley Mouse, Mars Hotel album cover. I wanted to revisit it. I wanted to imagine it differently, as if it were another night far in the future. As though this little city block had somehow survived all the apocalypses of eons of time and somehow the spirit of The Grateful Dead was still playing there.
