Bernie Wrightson Meltification of the Loathsome Fishes Print

No comments:

Nakatomi have a very special release, a project that was in development before Bernie Wrightson passed earlier this year.

Nakatomi is proud to release this brand-new reproduction of one of Bernie's great, unpublished masterpieces! Late last year, they were very happy to be able to have access to this original painting that was hanging in Bernie's house, and had it painstakingly scanned at high-resolution to bring you a color-accurate Giclée of this painting.

This print is available in two different sizes- a 12 x 30" edition limited to 400 copies, and a GIANT 24 x 60" edition of only 50 -a massive actual-size reproduction of the original painting.

About the title, from Doyle-
"During one of my last visits at the Wrightson home here in Austin, I asked Bernie about the title of this piece, and he told me, with a grin on his face-'Meltification of the Loathsome Fishes' was from him mishearing the Bible story, 'Multiplication of the Loaves and Fishes.' It was classic Bernie- wry and irreverent."

Originally painted back in the 1980's, this image has only been released once before as a print back in 1993. That printing was small, and did not capture the full color depth and 'hot' teal and red highlights of the original painting- it was definitely limited to the printing capabilities of the time. This reproduction features a wider color range to make it virtually indistinguishable from the original- especially at the larger size!
Produced through agreement with the Wrightson Estate.

Bernie Wrightson Cycle of the Werewolf Kickstarter Project

No comments:

Nakatomi is launching artist Bernie Wrightson's Kickstarter for a box set portfolio of his Cycle of the Werewolf illustrations. Bernie's had a hell of a couple years here with health issues, so they're hoping this thing goes LARGE and they can help him coast on through the rest of the year! (He literally JUST had brain surgery a couple weeks ago, 4 days after we filmed the Kickstarter video...)

Back in 1983, Bernie Wrightson had an idea- he wanted to work with Stephen King on a werewolf project, that would pair his art with King’s writing- which would be packaged as a 12-month calendar. Each month would feature a painting from Bernie and a short vignette from King, matching the monthly transformation of a werewolf. That project quickly changed from the calendar idea into the Illustrated short novel, Cycle of the Werewolf, which later was adapted into the film Silver Bullet.

This Kickstarter project is to fund a high-quality artist edition collection of the full color illustrations from Cycle of the Werewolf as a print set, along with a book collecting the Black and White illustrations and never-before printed concept and process sketches.

Portfolio Set Pledge $175 and you’ll receive this collection of 12 full-color paintings, faithfully reproduced at 11×14 as high-quality Giclées. Printed on 305gsm natural watercolor paper with archival Ultrachrome ink. Includes a signature plate, signed by Bernie and hand-numbered in a limited edition. Packaged in a custom collector’s box with foil-stamped cover. Includes the Cycle of the Werewolf sketchbook that features the black and white illustrations from the book, along with never before printed behind the scenes concept and process sketches by Bernie.

DELUXE WOOD BOX ARTIST EDITION SET Pledge $800 and you’ll get this super-lush wood box edition- limited to just 50 sets world-wide. This handcrafted fine wood box, featuring a laser-engraved logo and hand-applied blood-red enamel fill on the lid. The interior is hand-done crushed red velvet upholstery and padding.

-the 12 print set, printed on 310gsm Exhibition Watercolor paper EACH ONE signed by Bernie in a hand-numbered edition of 50, plus a signature plate..

-an actual Silver Bullet- stamped with the Wrightson ‘W’ inset into the red velvet padding. (note- bullet is inert)

-Cycle of the Werewolf sketchbook that includes the black and white illustrations from the book, along with never before printed behind the scenes concept and process sketches by Bernie.
There are other rewards for less such as a t shirt and calendar.

Please check back later for the direct link to the Kickstarter page.

UPDATE 10-13 I asked Doyle to send me the link when it was live and 24 hours later he still has not sent the link. Guess it's out there some place.

Bernie Wrightson’s THE STAND Letterpress Prints Portfolio Release

No comments:

Nakatomi is very pleased to announce our latest project with master illustrator Bernie Wrightson!

NOTE- these portfolio sets will go on sale FRIDAY 6/5 at 2pm Central time in the Bernie Wrightson section of the Nakatomi store HERE.

These ten beautiful black and white drawings were originally produced for Stephen King’s now-classic novel THE STAND back in the 1980’s, and they are being offered here for the first and ONLY time as a limited edition letterpress print set, inside a hand-made portfolio case.

The prints themselves are expertly printed by Red Press Printing in Austin, TX on heavyweight Arches 88 paper. Each frame-ready print measures 11 x 14 inches. The letterpress printing process produces rich, textured prints that showcase the quality of Wrightson’s line work, while also making each print in the edition a hand-made art object.

The hard-cover portfolio case books were custom hand-made by Cloverleaf Studio, also in Austin. Cloverleaf specializes in producing cases for valuable and rare editions- in many cases, centuries-old. The portfolios are crafted to perfectly hold the 10 prints, plus the signature plate- to prevent damage in shipping and for long-term storage of the prints. The prints are protected with glassine interleaving for further protection. Portfolios are covered in red book cloth on the outside and archival paperboard inside- as well as a hand-printed label set into the cover. Books measure just over 11.25 x 14.25 inches each

The Stand portfolio is offered in two matched-number editions- a regular edition of 40, and an artist edition of 15. Both editions features signature plates, signed by Wrightson.

All 10 prints in the artist edition will be signed by Wrightson and hand-numbered out of 15. Prints in the regular edition will be numbered out of 40.

These letterpress editions will not be available on Nakatomi again.

These portfolios are a beautiful and rare addition to any Stephen King / Bernie Wrightson collection- Nakatomi is extremely honored to bring these classic illustrations by a living legend to their audience.

Bernie is currently undergoing treatment for a brain tumor. The surgery went well, and he will soon be starting chemo. He is expected to make a recovery, but he is no spring chicken. Every sale goes to help off-set his medical bills, which are not minor. Not only is cancer very expensive, but he has not been able to work as much during treatment, so it's a double-hit when he's already dealing with so much.

Regular edition of 40 will sell for $300, artist edition of 15 will sell for $500.

Sets will be for sale on Friday 6/5 at 2PM CENTRAL time in the Bernie Wrightson section of the Nakatomi store HERE.

Bernie Wrightson Frankenstein Print Suite 3 Release Details

No comments:

Nakatomi is set to unleash another incredible set of Bernie Wrightson Frankenstein prints upon the world. On Thursday the 24th- at 2pm Central Time, Nakatomi will have these sets available on the Nakatomi website HERE-!

Each of these matched number sets are in editions of 50 worldwide. Half are already spoken for!

Each print measures 20×30 and is signed by the master himself, Bernie Wrightson.
These prints are hand-printed silkscreen images on heavy weight 130lb Cougar Natural stock- to match the other prints in this series.
All domestic (US) orders will ship flat via FedEx, and international orders will ship USPS in 2 tubes. Prints are in hand and ready for immediate shipment.

The 7th print- “Alone” was not included in the original publication, and has never been offered as a print!

But first-a note from Tim Doyle-
“As many of you may know- 2 weeks ago, Bernie suffered a series of small strokes. The original release date of these prints ended up being the very day that this happened. So, we pulled the release for the time being as we wanted to make sure all was well before we proceeded. I’ve been in in contact with both Bernie and his wife Liz, and it looks like his doctors are cautiously optimistic that he will make a full recovery. Bernie is in good spirits, and is anxious to get back to work on his projects. Unfortunately- this event came right at the start of the big Summer convention season- and Bernie had to cancel quite a few appearances. For a guy like Bernie- this means he had to take a significant hit to his wallet, right when he needs it the most to help get through all the medical expenses. So with all that in mind- every purchase you make of Bernie’s art on Nakatomi means that money is going directly to the man himself. You can also contact them directly through his website HERE where Bernie and Liz sell originals of his art. (And quite a few of them are VERY affordable, btw). Bernie’s got the best fans in the world, and we’ve been very pleased that he’s given us the honor of printing his work in silkscreen format. You can help out a living legend in a time of need, and pick up a great limited edition collectible at the same time! See you on site HERE at 2PM Central time on Thursday!

Bernie Wrightson You’re New Around Here, Aren’t You? Print Release Details Exclusive

2 comments:

How about the biggest and baddest Bernie Wrightson print you have ever seen ?  This print titled You’re New Around Here, Aren’t You? that Nakatomi just finished up is insane.

The last couple of weeks the guys at Nakatomi Print Labs have been working on a silk-screen print recreation of one of Bernie Wrightson’s CLASSIC paintings- “You’re New Around Here, Aren’t You?” from 1978.

This intensive, 10-screen project has been, by far, the most challenging and rewarding jobs they’ve ever had in the shop. They started with a great high-res scan of the original painting, which came to us as a surprise extra with the original Frankenstein line-art images last year. A good portion of Bernie’s paintings have NEVER been scanned digitally and they were very fortunate to be able to get their hands on this one. They sent the file to Nakatomi fellow, Jon Smith to separate for printing, as he’s had a long track record of getting amazing and vibrant photo-like results in his prints for years now. The only instructions to Jon were to ‘do the art justice, and go with as many screens as you think you need.’ Jon came back to them with the file as a 10- screen adaptation (pictured above), along with an 11-screen variant. Bernie approved the regular AND the variant colorway- which was something they WEREN’T QUITE SURE how he’d feel about- Nakatomi tinkering with his art like that, and they’re super-excited about the results.

Bernie Wrightson Frankenstein Print Suite 2 from Nakatomi

No comments:

Bernie Wrightson's illustrated adaptation of Frankenstein, originally published by Marvel Comics, set a high-water mark for illustration in the early 80's. The original art pieces disappeared into collections decades ago, and it was only through the tireless efforts of collectors like director Frank Darabont, that the original art boards were located and scanned with modern methods. Because of that process, Nakatomi has been able to offer these stunningly dark and beautiful images as hand-printed silkscreen prints. Their first print suite of Frankenstein images was a great success, and they're very proud to present the second set to the Nakatomi Nation. But they wanted to offer it to the previous buyers FIRST. Everyone who pre-orders from this will also receive a special 18x24 print by Bernie, never before offered. They're keeping that one under wraps!

-Purchasers of this set will get first crack at the next Bernie Wrightson project- a super-lush 10 color recreation of one of his famous paintings in the coming months.

-Nakatomi will be checking names on orders against our database to make sure early buyers are previous set purchasers.

To see the images in all their grisly glory, go HERE and click on the thumbnails.

Nakatomi will have for sale 50 matched numbered sets on this newest print suite, making these the smallest edition prints in the series by far.

In Print Suite 2-
6 20x30 prints-

"Ask Thee To Pardon" *
"Want of Sleep"
"Mortification" *
"Recourse to Death"
"Discovered its Shape"
"My Weary Existence" *

(prints marked with * are images NOT in the original Frankenstein Book!)

As well as a 12x18 print of an unused title page, and a 7" sticker!

Sets are available for purchase HERE NOW, and will be available to the general public on Wednesday. If these sets do sell out through this offer, none will go to the general public!

No comments:

The FINAL print in this series of Frankenstein images from the great Bernie Wrightson is quite possibly Tim Doyle of Nakatomi's personal favorite. The composition and lighting are just perfect, and the line-work in the shading is sublime. The isolation and longing in The Monster’s look is haunting. Just beautiful.

“Close Attention” measures 20×30, is printed on 130lb Cougar Natural paper, and is signed and numbered by the artist in an edition of only 140 worldwide. Only 30 copies available for general sale, the remainder are tied up in Subscriptions- of which a tiny bit are still left HERE.

Originally created for an illustrated edition of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, published by Marvel Comics in the early 80′s, it has been Nakatomi's supreme honor to work with Bernie in bringing these images to the silk-screen medium in such a large format.

Bernie Wrightson’s Frankenstein “A Torrent of Light Into Our Dark World" Print Release

No comments:

This stunningly beautiful image was created over 30 years ago, but never actually included in the final publication of Bernie Wrightson’s illustrated version of Marry Shelley’s Frankenstein.

Only printed once in the rarely seen and long out-of-print “The Lost Frankenstein” paperback from 20 years ago, this masterpiece is relatively obscure (undeservedly so) compared to the rest of this body of work.

The final print measures 20×30 and is signed and numbered in an edition of only 160. There are no AP copies of this print in existence. 110 of these prints are already shipped out to subscribers of the Frankenstein Series, leaving us only 50 copies to sell to the general public.

At the time of this writing Subscriptions are still available HERE. If this print sells out upon release, Full Subscriptions will no longer be available.

“A Torrent of Light Into Our Dark World” will be available on the Nakatomi site at 2PM Central Time in the store pages HERE.
