Bernie Wrightson Cycle of the Werewolf Kickstarter Project

No comments:

Nakatomi is launching artist Bernie Wrightson's Kickstarter for a box set portfolio of his Cycle of the Werewolf illustrations. Bernie's had a hell of a couple years here with health issues, so they're hoping this thing goes LARGE and they can help him coast on through the rest of the year! (He literally JUST had brain surgery a couple weeks ago, 4 days after we filmed the Kickstarter video...)

Back in 1983, Bernie Wrightson had an idea- he wanted to work with Stephen King on a werewolf project, that would pair his art with King’s writing- which would be packaged as a 12-month calendar. Each month would feature a painting from Bernie and a short vignette from King, matching the monthly transformation of a werewolf. That project quickly changed from the calendar idea into the Illustrated short novel, Cycle of the Werewolf, which later was adapted into the film Silver Bullet.

This Kickstarter project is to fund a high-quality artist edition collection of the full color illustrations from Cycle of the Werewolf as a print set, along with a book collecting the Black and White illustrations and never-before printed concept and process sketches.

Portfolio Set Pledge $175 and you’ll receive this collection of 12 full-color paintings, faithfully reproduced at 11×14 as high-quality GiclĂ©es. Printed on 305gsm natural watercolor paper with archival Ultrachrome ink. Includes a signature plate, signed by Bernie and hand-numbered in a limited edition. Packaged in a custom collector’s box with foil-stamped cover. Includes the Cycle of the Werewolf sketchbook that features the black and white illustrations from the book, along with never before printed behind the scenes concept and process sketches by Bernie.

DELUXE WOOD BOX ARTIST EDITION SET Pledge $800 and you’ll get this super-lush wood box edition- limited to just 50 sets world-wide. This handcrafted fine wood box, featuring a laser-engraved logo and hand-applied blood-red enamel fill on the lid. The interior is hand-done crushed red velvet upholstery and padding.

-the 12 print set, printed on 310gsm Exhibition Watercolor paper EACH ONE signed by Bernie in a hand-numbered edition of 50, plus a signature plate..

-an actual Silver Bullet- stamped with the Wrightson ‘W’ inset into the red velvet padding. (note- bullet is inert)

-Cycle of the Werewolf sketchbook that includes the black and white illustrations from the book, along with never before printed behind the scenes concept and process sketches by Bernie.
There are other rewards for less such as a t shirt and calendar.

Please check back later for the direct link to the Kickstarter page.

UPDATE 10-13 I asked Doyle to send me the link when it was live and 24 hours later he still has not sent the link. Guess it's out there some place.

It's BACK The Nakatomi Mystery Tube Sale

1 comment:

It’s been 6 months since the last Nakatomi Wide MYSTERY TUBE SALE, and it’s time to once again tempt fate, cast caution to the wind, and DIVE BACK IN FOR THE CRAZY!

TUBE SALE WILL BE ON TUESDAY 5/17 at 2pm CENTRAL TIME

Tubes are $50 each– Each tube will have 5 prints in it-all suitable for framing. Some are considered ‘scratch/dent’ in that there’s minor printing flaws or a ‘soft’ corner, but nothing that won’t frame out.

So, what’s in the pool of awesome that you’ll have a shot at getting this time out?

They will have a brand new print that will never be available for sale on Nakatomi site!

Every tube ordered will get one. There will be a special variant of this new print- randomly allocated in these tubes as well! The variant will be approximately 12% of the entire numbered run! It's the Batman print above, it was to be the cover image for a Batman comic and Tim Doyle drew it but they never used it.

They’re randomly inserting a totally awesome and unique test-sheet with orders! They did something special with the Test Sheets this time, and ran a special screen that’s JUST for test sheets on about 1/2 of them- the only way you’re going to get one of these ‘DEATH TO HUMANS’ prints is through this tube sale!

This was such a hit last time, they’re doing it again! There will be EXACTLY ONE of these- One lucky tube-buyer will receive ONE of EVERY single poster currently in print, that is published by Nakatomi! That means ALL Tim Doyle’s prints, Bernie Wrightson’s prints, and many, many more. Literally DOZENS of posters- regular, variant, foil- WHATEVER edition- if we published it, you will get a copy of it. The winner last time got WELL OVER 100 prints in the mail. Retail on this alone last time was over $4000.

And one lucky so-and-so will get this SUPER RARE Akira print by Tyler Stout! We picked this up from an ex-Mondo/Alamo Drafthouse employee, and again- JUST GIVING IT AWAY.

Get your clicky fingers ready- they’ve never had a Nakatomi tube sale NOT sell out they may start a little early or late with the drop time, as they’ve had massive server issues during these high-demand drops in the past. Last time though- it went like a BREEZE, so who knows?

TUBES WILL BE ON SALE HERE IN THE ART PRINT SECTION OF THE STORE TUESDAY AT 2PM CENTRAL.

Emek National Fear Association T-Shirt

No comments:

The fine folks at Nakatomi have joined with artist extraordinaire EMEK to bring his amazing National Fear Association design to T-Shirts for a limited time!

NOTE- First 50 orders will also get a 4×4 circle sticker of the NFA logo, AUTOGRAPHED by EMEK himself!

Best of all, Nakatomi and EMEK will donate 100% of all profits to Everytown For Gun Safety, a non-profit that does the good work of standing up to the NRA and their quest for increased profits for gun manufacturers. The NRA has proven time and again what their real goal is- more guns, and going against the will of the American public regarding common-sense gun-legislation. And how do you sell more guns? By selling FEAR. The more afraid people are- the more guns they buy. Violent crime rates in America are falling to levels not seen in decades – Americans are safer now than at just about any point in the last 20 years- but that goes against their narrative. So in this political season, take a stand for sanity and help us make a BIG donation to Everytown for Gun Safety, and rock this sweet t-shirt!

ABOUT THE SHIRT- Nakatomi will take pre-orders for this shirt from now until Friday night at MIDNIGHT Central time, and printing should begin the following week! This is a Gildan 100% ringspun cotton t-shirt will feature metallic gold ink!

***SHIRTS ARE AVAILABLE NOW HERE***

If you’d prefer this as a sticker as well, EMEK is selling sticker packs produced by the fine folks at Sticker Robot, get them HERE in his webstore.

Joshua Budich Rise to Meet Fate Print

No comments:

Joshua Budich is debuting a brand-new print through Nakatomi- and it’ll be on sale HERE Thursday at 2pm CDT in the NAKATOMI store.

“Rise to Meet Fate” is a 12×24 hand-printed silkscreen print, with a regular edition numbered out of just 150 world wide- $40! Also available in a Foil and ultra-limited WOOD variant!

From Budich-
“My kids are my two little muses. Whenever I can create art for them, about something that they love and we share together as a family, I’m all about it. Like any parent of small children, we find ourselves as adults, watching way more cartoons than we ever thought we would. But, for me as a consumer of all things visual, taking a fresh look at many of the earlier Disney films has been a blast of inspiration.
For this piece, I took inspiration from an artist I only recently discovered after watching Sleeping Beauty with more mature eyes- Eyvind Earle. Earle was the artistic director for Sleeping Beauty, creating lush and incredibly beautiful environments that were uniquely his in style. I wanted to create an homage to his work, but marry it to one of my kids’ other loves, the work of Hayao Miyazaki.
This Earle/Miyazaki mashup is my humble tribute to two of my favorite artists.”

Foil Variant- 12×24, printed on iridescent foil stock, edition of 25. $70

And finally, the wood variant- 12×24, hand-printed on wood panel- edition of 10. $100.
This wood edition is printed on fine 1/4″ birch veneer panel- and the rich wood texture shows through the ink, giving it a beautiful hand-made look.
All editions of this print will be up for sale in the ART PRINTS section of the Nakatomi store HERE at 2pm CENTRAL time on Thursday the 17th!

Bernie Wrightson’s THE STAND Letterpress Prints Portfolio Release

No comments:

Nakatomi is very pleased to announce our latest project with master illustrator Bernie Wrightson!

NOTE- these portfolio sets will go on sale FRIDAY 6/5 at 2pm Central time in the Bernie Wrightson section of the Nakatomi store HERE.

These ten beautiful black and white drawings were originally produced for Stephen King’s now-classic novel THE STAND back in the 1980’s, and they are being offered here for the first and ONLY time as a limited edition letterpress print set, inside a hand-made portfolio case.

The prints themselves are expertly printed by Red Press Printing in Austin, TX on heavyweight Arches 88 paper. Each frame-ready print measures 11 x 14 inches. The letterpress printing process produces rich, textured prints that showcase the quality of Wrightson’s line work, while also making each print in the edition a hand-made art object.

The hard-cover portfolio case books were custom hand-made by Cloverleaf Studio, also in Austin. Cloverleaf specializes in producing cases for valuable and rare editions- in many cases, centuries-old. The portfolios are crafted to perfectly hold the 10 prints, plus the signature plate- to prevent damage in shipping and for long-term storage of the prints. The prints are protected with glassine interleaving for further protection. Portfolios are covered in red book cloth on the outside and archival paperboard inside- as well as a hand-printed label set into the cover. Books measure just over 11.25 x 14.25 inches each

The Stand portfolio is offered in two matched-number editions- a regular edition of 40, and an artist edition of 15. Both editions features signature plates, signed by Wrightson.

All 10 prints in the artist edition will be signed by Wrightson and hand-numbered out of 15. Prints in the regular edition will be numbered out of 40.

These letterpress editions will not be available on Nakatomi again.

These portfolios are a beautiful and rare addition to any Stephen King / Bernie Wrightson collection- Nakatomi is extremely honored to bring these classic illustrations by a living legend to their audience.

Bernie is currently undergoing treatment for a brain tumor. The surgery went well, and he will soon be starting chemo. He is expected to make a recovery, but he is no spring chicken. Every sale goes to help off-set his medical bills, which are not minor. Not only is cancer very expensive, but he has not been able to work as much during treatment, so it's a double-hit when he's already dealing with so much.

Regular edition of 40 will sell for $300, artist edition of 15 will sell for $500.

Sets will be for sale on Friday 6/5 at 2PM CENTRAL time in the Bernie Wrightson section of the Nakatomi store HERE.
