This is Rob Schwager's latest hand-pulled screen print, “firefly girl”.
Fireflies. Lightning Bugs. Glow worms, etc… Different names, depending on which region of the country you grew up in, but they all meant the same thing.
For Rob growing up in Chicago, June and July meant the lightning bugs were back! At night him and his friends used to catch them and put as many as possible into jars. They’d almost always release them before their parents called them in for the night. Unfortunately, since moving to Florida, Rob doesn’t have lightning bugs around there. His kids had never seen a lightning bug and hadn’t experienced the fun of chasing and catching them. That is, until last year, when his daughter went up to Illinois to visit her grandparents for a couple weeks. She went in June and got to experience the thrill first hand. This print is a depiction of his daughter’s first experience with catching and releasing fireflies.
