Nineteen Eighty-Four is a classic, written by George Orwell in 1947-1948 in a farmhouse on the remote Scottish island of Jura while slowly dying of tuberculosis, telling the tale of Winston Smith and his own private rebellion against the superstate of Oceanian and its omnipresent Leader Big Brother.
Its been a long time favorite of Alan Campbell's and on every reading fascinates him in an entirely different way, its cultural impact is unrivaled and is regularly voted one of the best novels of the English language.
