MECKA is pleased to present ALTARed Ego, a solo exhibition featuring new works by underground New Orleans street artist, Priest. Please join them on Saturday, February 8th, from 6-10pm for the opening exhibition. The first few people in line will receive a free original and the following 50 will receive a signed spray can.
MECKA is a new gallery/installation space in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn featuring both street artists and contemporary artist. MECKA’s successful debut show featured well know street artist Rene Gagnon. For the follow up, in the words of Priest himself, “I hope you don't have the ACLU knocking on your door after the opening.” With a statement like that, we can expect more of the same work that made Priest a name in the streets — a searing combination of wit and social commentary.
Priest is originally from the sleepy coastal town of Mobile, Alabama and has recently relocated to New Orleans where he spends his days keeping a low profile and spends his nights creating electrifying work that takes on things big and small, from the oil spill in the Gulf to the NSA.
The work on display at MECKA expands upon Priest’s body of existing work by putting his themes on canvas, in a un- traditional gallery setting, which only amplifies the message.
His work is an addictive, thought-provoking experience that is not to be missed.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Running away from home at the tender age of 24, Priest landed in the only place a person with zero skills and a computer could: the superficial world of street art. His work has been compared to Michael J Fox (on his bad days). With a particular lack of skills and a ubiquitous status it is a wonder how he has achieved Kardashian-like fame. His pieces contain hollow thoughts and predictable juxtaposition challenging the viewer to ask, "Is that a Banksy?" - Priests wife

MECKA is a gallery space in Brooklyn focusing on contemporary art and street art. Also, besides having a "yard sale" at the gallery, they will be selling an edition of 30, 22 x 30 hand embellished, "Pay No Bills" print. Each print is $100.
