Shepard Fairey Smoke ‘em While You Got ‘em Poster Release Details

Obey Giant will be releasing Shepard Fairey's latest print next week titled Smoke ‘em While You Got ‘em. I'm curious to see what you readers thing about this poster. What do you think he is referring too ? My opinion he is talking about the finite amount of resources we have and the rate at which we are using them. In turn it's his usual sarcastic social commentary to make a point, which I like. Leave a comment about what you think the poster is all about.

The poster is 18 x 24 inch screen print on cream speckle tone paper.  Signed and numbered edition of 450.

Available March 24, 2015 at a random time between 10am and 11am PST in PRINTS.

  1. It talking about all the restrictions that are put on smoking now days. And it's missing a finger. Seriously, hold something in your hand like that and look. It's missing a pinky!

    1. At first I thought yeah it's missing but if you pose your right hand the same way the index finger is actual covered by the flame/ top of the lighter and the pinky is in the right location.

  2. i think he is talking about personal freedoms and this notion that everything was "way better back in my day" and this fleeting idea that we exhaust everything to the point of self mutilation. Even though this hand has lost its pinky it does not care and will lose the rest for their right to (FILL IN THE BLANK)

  3. It seems to be a warning that the established powers controlling big money, oil, and tobacco is coming to an end. However this will not be relinquished easily and that newer forms of power both literally and figuratively will approach a tipping point. There are those who will try to control the majority of wealth and power through influence, and threats of aggression. Hopefully we may see that this paradigm has been played out to futility time after time. Today's generations hopefully will continue and grow peer to peer sharing of resources despite the resistance of the establishment and their need to protect the status quo. You can't regulate or enforce kindness.
